Either by one of the writers, or by Alan Alda himself. It would be, to us, a novel of the show, but to Hawkeye, it's an autobiography about his experiences during the war. He would focus on his "three" years in Korea and talk about all the friends he made, Trapper, BJ, Radar, Potter, Margaret, Klinger, Father Mulcahy and even his not-so-friends, Frank and Winchester. Maybe he'd devote a chapter to all those he was close to that died because of the war, including Henry Blake and Tommy Gillis (from "Sometimes You Hear the Bullet"). Maybe the title of the chapter would be "Sometimes You Hear the Bullet" in memory of his late friend.
I think it would be a great book and I'd read it and probably love it. The book wouldn't have a complete episode guide, it would just pick and choose certain episodes that meant something to the character of Hawkeye and put them in the book. I may have mentioned this before, but I'm thinking about it again, lol. Do you have any ideas for chapters in this book or anything else this book could have that would be neat? |

That's a brilliant idea! It could be like, I don't know, maybe like 5 years later...he's married and his wife is pregnant with their first child, so he's writing his experiences so that some day, his son or daughter will be able to read about everything he went through....
Could talk about like what he's done after, then go back and talk about some of the antics he and Trap/Beej pulled and stuff like that, too... Wow..I really like this idea. |

I just realized something. The Pilot episode is taken place a couple months after Hawkeye got there. So the first chapter could be Hawkeye telling the story of his first few days at MASH and how he met Trapper, Henry, Radar, Hot Lips, Frank and Father Mulcahy. Since, like I say, we didn't see Hawk's first days at the MASH.

Wow! Good call! Coud even start before he was drafted...or maybe even just with opening the letter that tells him he's going to Korea...?

You know, they could really write this for any character. I think that Hawkeye would be good as a start, but could def. do a sequel or such with Margaret or Trapper (though his would probably have to be shorter) or Klinger (which could be REALLY interesting)!
