Default I liked this show the same way I liked Welcome Back Kotter and What's Happening

I only was interested the MOST when they were in the Diner instad of Alice home or any of the other character homes the same way I preferred The Classroom setting on Welcome Back Kotter and the Soda Shop Setting on What's Happening. The eps I watched recently I found myself falling to sleep when the scene shifted to Alice's House-lol I'm not sure if I would buy this show on DVD. I would have to see if on Cable First

Well, you gotta like the episode "The Odd Couple" even though it all takes place almost in Alice's apartment. It was one of the best episodes during the show's entire run.

I agree with you Solomon, I liked the show much better at the diner.

The diner episodes had alot more characters which usually made things
funnier. They should do a reunion show.

A reunion show would be interesting but I don't think it'll ever happen. Mel died in the late 80's. Polly and Linda Lavin despise each other (they haven't talked, according to Polly, in a number of years). Besides, anyone see the dreadful reunion movie of "Facts of Life".

Someone (a fan I think) wrote a screenplay for a reunion movie back in the early 90's...I think it was very good...the story line had all five girls in it. I think if I remember correctly Alice goes back to Pheonix after her "music" career dies down (to help Tommy) and discovers that Mel's Diner still stands but has been empty for a number of years (she apparently already knows Mel died "four" years ago). Feeling sentimental she decides to buy and re-open the diner with help from Tommy, who is now a very wealthy businessman. Tommy convinces Alice that maybe she should hunt down her former co-workers who may want to help her run the diner again. She finds Flo in Dallas who is now divorced (again) and working in a seedy bar. Convinced that this is her "last chance" to start over and make something of herself, Flo returns with Alice back to Pheonix. Next, Alice finds Vera working in the Pheonix Zoo. Her husband died while on the job (shot). She has four daughters. Vera tells Alice that it wouldn't be "right" if she doesn't contact Jolene to see if she wants in on the deal. The girls discover Jolene coaches backetball in Austin, Texas...after a phone call they are able to convince Jolene to come back to Pheonix. Anyway, Alice assumes Mel's cooking title and the three are the waitresses. Anyway to make a long story short, the story revolves pretty much running the diner (with guest apparences by some of the "regular" customers from the original show). Flo is still chasing men, Alice fears for her grand-daughter who is out of control, Vera discovers she has breast cancer and worries about her daughters if she should die. Belle makes a brief appearance..she's now a Las Vegas lounge singer who happens to have a gig in Pheonix. Anyway at the end the girls discover the old magic of Mel and his diner just isn't there so at the end they decide to close the diner (once again). The movie ends with Alice apologizing to the girls for getting them "into this". Flo says she was going to retire anyway and makes a crack about all the men in Pheonix. Alice says she is staying to help Tommy with his children (apparently his wife died in a car accident like his father did), she promises Vera she will also help her anyway she can thru her cancer ordeal. Jolene says she wants to be a truck driver again but she'll stay living in Pheonix permanently. Alice decides not to sell Mel's Diner, she will just leave it the way it is as a memorial to Mel. The very last line has Alice locking the door and she says something like "God I miss you Mel, I tried but no one is as special with you, hope your cooking up there in Heaven"...then Jolene cracks "God I hope not" and then Flo says "yeah all the angels will have eternal indigestion". The storyline sounds grim I know but it was actually very funny. I think that is how it went. It wasn't bad...the dialogue was actually good. Flo only says "kiss my grits" once.
