Thumbs up Love, Alice

Has anyone read this book by Audrey Meadows? If so what did you think?
I just got done reading it & have to say I was very surprised by some of Gleason's pranks/actions. I was also surprised at some of the games they use to play when bored going over scripts..had to read that one once or twice as it sounded like something a bunch of kids would do lol.
I loved the book..it made them seem so much more "human" if that makes any sense. A nice look into who they were offstage. They sounded like people who would have been a lot of fun to hang out with that's for sure.

I haven't read the book yet but it's on my "books I plan on reading list".
By your description it seems like a warm-hearted account of what it was like to be able to work with Jackie Gleason. I'll let you know what I think about the book when I get the chance to read it.

Yes, it was very warm-hearted although Audrey Meadows did have a lot of "Alice" in her. There were several times throughout the book where she put Gleason in his place. I myself read it in hopes of seeing a little more of who Art Carney was but ended up enjoying finding out about Jackie's ways .
Anyway can't wait to hear what you think about it when you get a chance to read it.

Yes, I really enjoyed reading this book. Out of all the Honeymooners-related books I've read, I'd have to say this was the most interesting. Off the top of my head, I seem to recall one of those pranks Gleason pulled on Audrey, something involving two naked women with lamp shades on their heads. To this day I still can't get that picture out of my mind.

LOL yep! She said something like she just stood there & kept talking but he paid for it later. I don't know I think I would have been rolling on the floor laughing. The picture I can't get out of my mind is the one of them being so bored while reading over scripts that they would "touch tongues" with one another as a form of entertainment . Wonder who came up with that one!

LOL, I forgot about that one. They could make a really good movie out of this book if they did it right. I'd recommend this to any Honeymooners fan, I mean, it's from Alice herself, it doesn't get much better than that.

Great One - I suggest you put this on the top of your "books I plan on reading" list. You check this out and I'll check out the "Gleason" movie and we'll get back to eachother, sound good?

Deal Or No Deal! I guess it's a deal. I bought a mint condition hardcover copy
of "Love, Alice" today on Amazon.com for only 70 cents. What a bargain!
I look forward to reading the book.

If anyone is interested in owning a second copy of "Love, Alice" on Amazon.com they have five copies available in fair to good condition for only 1 cent. Check it out.

Oh no!!! First you mentioned "The Next Champ" and how funny some of the scenes were and now I just have to buy the dvd that has that episode on it so that I can watch it. And then you had to share with everyone that you just finished reading "Love, Alice" and that you thought it was a very good book so I just had to buy it today on Amazon.com. Gosh, what's next! I guess I must really have a Honeymooners sickness. Thank a lot!!! hehehe...

Yay! You bought it! Your in for a treat..I'm sure you've read all the things Bill S & I have been talking about lol now you can be in on it to .
I went to watch my Gleason DVD & it kept freezing, when I took it out I noticed it had a nice size scratch on the back of it. I'm going tonight to replace & hopefully watch it.
I don't know -The Great One- sounds like your "sickness" is getting as bad as mine. It's okay though it's a good sickness to have! I promise I'll try not to find anymore good Honeymooners things until you have the DVD & the book..that way you'll be all caught up hehe.

That's o.k. for mentioning "The Next Champ" episode and the "Love, Alice" book. I'll just take my Honeymooners "chill pills" and I'll be alright. So no worries.

That was very interesting, I read it two times! I loved it! I bought on Amazon of somebody for five bucks in good condition hard back. It took your mind back too how it was in New York in the 50's during the golden age of televison. The late great legendry Actress Audrey Meadows, had some very fasniting stories! Wow Jackie sure could eat some food!! Audrey, was hot stuff in her day!! She was pretty!

^ Yeah I was amazed at how much that man would eat & DRINK! How his body kept going until the late 80's is a miracle in itself. Audrey Meadows was very pretty, although seeing as how I'm a girl I was much more attracted to Art Carney . Life in the 50's seemed great would have loved to party with them!
