Thanksgiving....Feel free to add!! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Thanksgiving is right around the corner---well for those who are in the USA
And with that brings a time for most people to take a moment and share why they are thankful
We realyl shouldn't need a holiday for this, but it is a great idea in general- and a great sentiment.
The fact is we get busy, and busier every year. Working, kids, school - hobbies and just basic responsibilities- its a hectic world we live in, and hours, sometimes days go by and we forget to just absorb and appreciate.

And even in something like this, where its a hobby, sometimes we forget to be thankful
So wether someone took an extra step, threw in an extra disc-
Pointed you in the direction of a good sale, or helped you put a show to dvd, or even helped you complete a show- take a moment - here or in private and say thanks-
Who couldn't use a thank you right?

For me, as many know I flooded this year. It was horrible and the clean up is still continuing, as is the rebuilding.
But what happened happened, mother nature isn't one you can really argue with.
Despite what happened, despite being so very depressed and so overwhelmed- I came here, merely to post an update- to let peopel know about a delay, or excuse my absense.
And I came back to a heartfelt thread of support- advice, I can't thank you enough.
I received e-cards and links form people on cleaning supplies, and learned of a few that had gone through this devestation, and how they overcame it.
I learned about different techniques and was shared with sales on media, equitpment and just offers to listen if I needed.
Some members shared their collection with me, and spindles to help me clean up and store/save what didn't get ruined.
The overall community support, was one of my biggest lifelines in a time, that I really thought I coudn't handle things.

Trading....you would think you get a disc, send a disc and the relationship is over- but we are so much more than that here-
I know who has a baby coming

And I know who is getting married (and they met on the chit chat section!!)
I know, who is going through a rough time-and who just got their favorite childhood cartoon and why its their favorite cartoon.
We dont' just share our discs here, are inventory we share pieces of ourselves- and our life-
And that is what makes this more than a hobby, but a family
Which is why I dedicate what I can, from posts, to safety if possible to even little contests- because to me, we are a family.
And all families disagree, and all families fight sometime-
But at the end of the day I am grateful for this community- and in a time that so many thinks are terrible, I just wanted to take a moment to say that.

If you have something to say, feel free to add it-
Or if there is just someone in your life, wether here or elsewhere- take a moment and tell them thanks.

A lovely message, Kim! I am also thankful for the nice people I have met on this board!

I will think of this thread as the Trading Post virtual Thanksgiving table.

[please pass the cranberry sauce...and the tofurkey...]

Kim is the family matriarch for sure! (not old by any means, but certainly the rock that holds us together)

I am not sure who our patriarch is though... hmmmmm....

But, I'm pretty sure that the "kid's table" will be full this year.

But yes 2 people met on the chit chat section, found out they lived somewhat close together, met the rest is history.

I just think we all need to take a step back sometimes and be thankful for what we have, who we know and in general some things that we all tend to overlook.

And I don't mind being looked at as the matriarch..just match me up with someone good for Patriarch....George clooney perhaps..or..Brad Pitt- I'm not picky..

Ditto the TOFURKEY thing. I've been a vegetarian for 23 years & love tofu...but still can't handle tofurkey.

Being the TV addict that I am I spend each Thanksgiving day with Thanksgiving episodes of my favorite shows. And I've been doing this for years since I first started recording shows. So Thanksgiving Day you find me watching Thanksgiving episodes of Jean Shepherd's Thanksgiving TV special, Hazel, Thanksgiving Visitor (w/Geraldine Page), My 3 Sons, Bewitched, Father Knows Best, George & Leo, Charlie Brown, Beverly Hillbillies, & Bob Newhart and whatever other Thanksgiving episodes I can remember on that day. Hazel did 4 different Thanksgiving shows, so you can watch a different one each of the 4 day holidays.

And, yes Kim, to show I'm not a total TV nut, that was a very nice Thanksgiving message. I try to remember to thank people who I've had trades with at the time of the trade especially if it's to help fill in holes in my collection. The magic words of please and thank you are still ingrained in me.

Thanks to all I've had trades with and to all you folks of excellent taste and distinction who prove it by going to such ends to be able to enjoy your own favorite shows whenever you want. Heaven knows the TV cable channels are of no help in this anymore. I wouldn't even bother to turn my TV on if it weren't for my DVDs and tapes.

A great big THANK YOU to Mr. Scotch the inventor of video tape and whoever invented DVD recorders. Wouldn't know what I'd do without ya.

Well, we don't cellebrate thanksgiving over here, but I kinda consider myself to be one of the board's extended family (the cousin you get along with, but just keep him away from the hooch

), so I'll be there in spirit.

I've been veggie for about that long as well. Actually, I don't eat TOFUrkey either. But, I do make a MEAN portabello mushroom and pine nut stuffing!
