Default Steve Avery

Sorry for posting this but was surprised no one had talked about him yet. Steve Avery was the guy in Wisconsin who was wrongly convicted of a rape in 1985 and was released after being found not guilty by DNA evidence and was released in 2003. Well in 2005 he was arrested and charged with raping and murdering 25 year old Teresa Halbach. Here is a link to some of the story and there are lots of info on the net if you just type in Steven Avery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Avery

I dont know why but for some reason I want this guy to be innocent. Probably because he was exonorated from a previous crime. I know in my heart of hearts he most likely did what he has been accused of. My opinion that there is even a sliver of a chance he is innocent will not be popular but oh well. I do think the cops did have a vendetta against Avery. I will not go so far as to say they planted evidence. Although it is possible, unlikely but possible that the evidence could have been planted. The cops I am sure did not like Avery at all for having proven their agency wrong about his rape conviction or the fact he was suing them and the county at the time of Teresa Halbach's sad and untimely death. However it is also obvious that Steven Avery was never exactly a model citizen or pillar of society. He did have prior felonies on his record before the 1985 wrongful rape conviction. One was for burglary and another one was pointing a gun at a deputy sheriff's wife. He was out on bail for that at the time of the rape and was later sentenced to 6 years in prison for that which he served concurrently with the rape conviction. Also he had once been convicted of misdemeanor animal cruelty after he doused a living cat and then set it on fire and watch it burn to death. So clearly Avery was no angel.

However do these things make him a murderer? It is tough to say. The reason why I think there is even a slim possibility that Avery did not do it is the following: If he did it why would he do it on his property? Also he worked at an auto salavge yard that is family owned. Why not take Halbach's car and crush it and destroy it instead of parking it in the middle of a bunch of other cars and take off the license plates? Also why would he leave her keys in his bedroom as well as leave handcuffs and leg irons in his bedroom in plain sight that he supposedly used to chain her to his bed? I dont know, this case, he probably did it but I just for some reason want it to be he didnt do it. Anyone have any opinions?

Yes, this is a very interesting case I saw earlier in the year on Dateline NBC I think. The girl they're accused of killing was tied naked to a bed and then tortured and raped repeatedly be Avery and his nephew. (allegedly)

I don't recall all the specific details but the biggest strike against Avery is WHY would his nephew testify that Avery had the girl tied up after he got home and Avery asked his nephew if he wanted to rape her too?

Also, they interview Avery after he was arrested and he really didn't seemed too shocked and was kind nonchalant about the whole thing. If was innocent you think he would be raising some cane or at least be a bit more emphatic about his innocence!

Hey well the nephew's confession I think is a little too convienent. I mean I dont know that I buy the fact that he would rape Therea Halbach and then cut her throat because his uncle told him to. I mean this was a 16 year old kid that looked taller than his uncle and could out run h im if he wanted to. If the nephew's account is true (parts of it may be but I dont think the whole thing is true and I think it is even possible that the nephew did it and tried framing Avery. I mean it is a far fetched theory but Avery kind of had burned his bridges with the Sheriff's department and they had got him wrongly convicted before. I would not put it past them to do it again. There are just certain things that are fishy with this whole thing. It just seems a little too convienent that the nephew would confess and how come they were looking at him anyway? Since it was Avery they wanted to bust did they just want to kill two birds with one stone by getting another member of his family too? Another fishy example is how detectives had combed Avery's room at least once and didnt find Teresa Halbach's vehicle key which supposedly was on the floor of Avery's room the whole time.

Actually I remember they said they found some of Teresa's belongings inside of Avery's trailer or whatever and I think they mentioned they found her keys but even if it was not her keys then how do explain Teresa's stuff they found inside Avery's home?

Also, didn't they find some of Avery's DNA or fingerprints on Teresa's body? And if Avery's nephew didn't do it then why would he send himself to jail and tell the cops that he is involved?
