Remembering her Spirit

*Hi guys. Here's the new story. Just so you know I won't be posting for at least a couple a days. Like until Thursday because I'm going to be 100% dedicated with school* Chelsea Rae

'Mmmm' Vicky thought to herself as she took a bite of her hamburger at Maui International airport.

She can finally go home to Jack. It seemed as though she had worked full-stop all week. She thought how sad it was 8:00 at night and this was the first thing she ate all day. When she worked a lot she had no desire to eat.

Being in Hawaii was no prize either, it was rainy and draining on the spirit. Vicky hoped the weather was more uplifting back home. Just then a familiar woman walked into the airport. Dark hair, medium skin tone. No mistaking, it was Janet Wood Dawson.

She didn't look very happy. Her hair was down in a messy sort of way. She had a black tank top on and a pair of gray pants. She had on huge black sunglasses and a little girl on her shoulders.

The little girl looked nothing like Janet. She had curly, red hair in a sloppy bun. She had very white skin, almost albino. She also had a bunch of freckles. She was adorable, though.

At first, Vicky wanted to go right to her and hug her. But something told her to keep her distance. She didn't contact Vicky or Jack at all since she came to their wedding. That was very odd. They both sort of took it personally. She looked at her watch, grabbed her burger, and headed for the plane home. All the time praying she would go unnoticed by her.

'I see you' Janet thought to herself as she saw Vicky leave the airport.

"Honey, I'm over here," Phillip called out to Janet as he was over in the baggage claim getting their luggage.

"Phil, I just saw Vicky."

"Who's Vicky mommy?" the little red haired girl asked, still on her shoulders.

"Nothing, Abigail," she says taking her off her shoulders. "Mommy has to go to the bathroom for a little while. Stay with daddy okay?"

"Yes, mommy."

Janet gave Abigail a kiss on the cheek before heading to the bathroom. She felt nauseated and anxiety-ridden. Though, she had just gotten off a plane ride. That can do that to you. She just sat on the toilet seat and cried. She had no idea what was wrong with her.

"Mommy, mommy, are you okay?" Abigail runs into the bathroom.

Janet, trying to restrain tears, says "Yes, honey, I'll be right out."

"OK, me and daddy are waiting for you."

"Thank you, honey."

"Is she coming out?" Phil asks his little girl.

"I don't know she sounded funny."

"Honey, was anyone else in there?"

"I don't think so."

"I'm going in. Don't move please."

"Okay, dad."

He enters the ladies room. It felt so weird being in there. He hears crying. He knows it's his wife's cry. He goes over to the stall and knocks on the door.

"It's your husband, can I come in?"

"Hi, Phil."

He opens the door and walks in. His wife sitting there with tears and mascara running down her face. He gets some toilet paper and kneels to her level. He holds her chin as he wipes away her tears.

"I'm sorry." she says.

"Don't be, honey. Please don't be."

"But we're supposed to be on vacation. It's supposed to be a happy time."

Now holding both hands on her face he asks her "How long?"

"What?"

"How long?"

"A few months."

A little smile comes over his face and a little one comes over hers. They kiss each other on the lips and then they hug.

"Do you know for sure?"

"No, but it wouldn't suprise me. I'm nauteous."

Abigail enters the bathroom. "What are you guys doing in there?"

They look at each other.

"Let's not tell her for a while."

"Good idea." Phillip says

They come out of the stall and Phillip picks her Abigail up on his hip. She has no idea of what's going on.

It was 9:00 at night and Abigail is asleep in the hotel room bed. Janet and Phillip just dragged themselves into bed. On the way there, they picked up a pregnancy test and some apple juice for Abigail. Phillip notices a smile on Janet's face.
"Are you pregnant?"

"What do you think?"

Phillip holds her close and kisses her tenderly. Janet cries from the sweetness. That makes Phillip only want to do it more. She was an easy crier when they began to make love. Phillip thought it was a confidence booster when she would weep at teh touch of his mouth.

"What were we going to name Abigail if she was a boy?"

"We were going to name him Caden?"

"Should we stick with it?" Phillip asked kissing her breastbone.

"Yep I still like it."

"Now what about girl's names?" he asked moving toward her belly button.

"What was your grandma's name?"

"Alicia."

"That's pretty," Janet says somewhat moaning. "Let's go with it."

"Perfect." Phillip says moving south of the border with his last kiss.

"Phil, why do you love me?"

Astonished by this question, he pulls himself out from under the covers. He proceeds to pull on Janet's legs until they were wrapped around his waist. He begins to caress her hair and face.

"You are the woman of my dreams," he interrupts himself with a kiss. "You are my wife, the mother of my daughter and unborn child, I'm a better man because of you.

Janet begins to weep and she kisses him on the lips, earlobes, and neck.

"I love you because you saw me. I never thought I was attractive or worthy of any love..."

"Oh, baby."

"When I knew, I knew. My family and some of my friends thought I was crazy marrying only after a couple of weeks of dating. But you were the only man I truly felt good with. The way you kissed me at the wedding, I felt like the most incredible gift being opened by the most incredible man alive."

"I love you."

"I love you so much they need to redefine love."

The desert was dry and muggy. The sun was beating down like hammer. There is a young lady lying on a bed of coral sheets. She is naked underneath but you can't tell. Her belly swollen and radiant skin. She is beautiful. She feels beautiful.

A long lost male friend stands before her. He lies next to her on the bed and just stares at her. Smiling, she takes his hand and begins to help him caress her belly. The friend is so proud.

"I'm going to go." he says kissing her stomach.

"When will you be back?"

"When you decide to reach me."

"Where?"

"You know where."

Janet wakes up from the dream and realizes who the man was next to her in bed was: Jack. She felt so guilty. Though after he did to me, why should I be?

Jack lies in bed awake at 7:30 in the morning. He just had a dream about seeing a pregnant Janet lying down in bed with him. When Vicky told Jack about seeing her in the airport, it all came flooding back to him. She had no idea about their rehersal dinner.

FALSHBACK

"Congratulations, Jack," Janet says wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Thanks, Jan."

They were alone in the pews. It was a romantic yet creepy church. St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church is what the church was called. One of the oldest in the Santa Monica district. Janet was a bridesmaid at the wedding. She was stunning; as Jack remembered. Phil bought her this incredible low-cut coral dress which, according to Janet, was designed by Chanel.

"Honey, I have something to tell you."

"What?"

"I'm going to have a baby."

"Oh, honey," Jack says kissing her. It seemed okay until his tongue got involved.

"Stop, Jack, remember you're getting married tomorrow."

"I know," Jack says obeying. "Can I feel the baby?"

"Well, Jack, I'm only two months along."

"Great!" he says immediatley caressing her belly.

"Have you been drinking."

"Yeah, since noon. In-laws are driving me insane."

Just then, he moves on from her stomach to her thighs. Then to her groin. Janet immeadiatley slaps him.

"Jack Edward Tripper!" Janet exclaims in tears.

Jack passes out before the rehersal begins. He wakes up on his wedding day with an atomic hangover and remembers what he did. He had a lot of apologizing to do. He felt so bad for Janet. She put on a good face for the sake of the wedding.

END FLASHBACK

Jack automatically picks up the phone and the phonebook. Janet and Phillip Dawson. 555-6522. He lets it ring through and hears Janet's voice on the answering machine:

"Hi, you have reached the Dawson's. Leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can."

Beep.

"Jan, it's me. If you have time to call me, it's the same number."

*7 months later*
I'm a boy!

After an exhausting nine hour labor, Janet and Phillip's new bundle of joy popped out. The baby had his parent's dark hair and eyes. He had Phillips white, milky skin and Janet's slope nose. He and his sister shared a pair of cute but huge ears.

"You know, he doesn't look like a Caden." Phillip discovered.

"You're right, what do you think we should name him?"

"He looks like an Italian."

"Yeah, he sort of looks like my great uncle Giacomo."

"We are NOT naming him that!"

"What makes you think I wanted to name him that? I just said he looks like him."

"Anthony!"

"What?"

"Janet, he would make the perfect Anthony."

Janet looks at him for a while and says "Oh my god, he does."

"Anthony Robert Dawson."

"Perfect."

"Too perfect." Janet cups Phillip's chin and kisses him on the lips. She looks at her son and kisses his little raspberry lips.

"I'm so lucky," she says with tears of joy flowing down. "I have two lovley men in my life."

Phillip kisses his wife on the forhead. Just then, another familiar man walks in with a bouquet of blue roses in his hand. Jack Tripper was in the house.

"Hi, honey." Janet says.

"Congratulations." he says kissing his friend on the cheek.

"Congrats, Phil," Jack says shaking his hand.

"Thanks."

'Three lovley men.' Janet thinks to herself.

"Slow down you crazy child

You got so much to do and only so many hours in a day.

Janet sings Billy Joel's song "Vienna" tenderly into her baby boy's ear. It's been 3 weeks since his birth and since her reconciliation with Jack. Phillip was at work and Abigail was at pre-school. Anthony is in a state of calm and so is his mother.

"Mommy loves you," Janet says kissing the soft spot on his head. "My baby and me."

The sweetness is overwhelming. Through this moment, Janet begins to tell her infant son silent promises. The promises of love, care, compassion, and understanding. She would make sure that Vienna would wait for him as it did with her.

"Hello, Janet Dawson? This is Dr. Hoffman from the Santa Monica hospital," a woman on the other line said.
"Oh, Dr. Hoffman, how are you?" Janet said happily but anxiously.

"Janet, I got your test results from your mammogram last week and I've got some bad news for you."

"What is it?"

"Janet, you have a lump on your breast and it is likely that is cancer."

Oh my god, Janet thought. I have breast cancer!

"Janet, we would like to see you sometime next week for radiation, okay? I am so sorry."

"Thanks, bye." Janet said setting the phone down. She trembled and tries to make sense of what happened. She picks up the phone and dials Jack.

"Hello?" Jack says answering.

"Hi, honey," Janet says beginning to weep.

"Baby doll, what is the matter? Are you okay?"

"Jack, no."

"No, you're not all right?"

"I have cancer, Jack."

"What?"

"Yeah."

"Stay there, honey. I'm coming."

"Okay."

The ten minutes seemed like two hours. She sees his car and then her world seemes steady for a while. She should have called her husband but for some reason didn't want him to know not yet. Jack walks up to her and hugs her. Janet begins to cry again.

"It's going to be okay."

"What about my husband, my daughter, my baby boy? Oh, my poor baby!"

"It's all going to be all right. You are going to make it. Your family is going to be fine. It's all going to be fine."

"What about you are you okay?"

"What would you say if I told you no."

"That I don't blame you."

"Then no."

Janet takes Jack's face and kisses his lips.

"Don't tell my husband about that."

"Oh god no."

Janet giggles but that doesn't stop the pain.

Janet woke up from her dream. It couldn't be good to dream of breast cancer. She looked at Phillip who was sound asleep. She realized just how much Jack was there for her when she was about to get married.
When Janet got engaged, she was happy but overwhelmed. Am I crazy? she would think to herself. I've only been out with this man for 31/2 weeks! Those nights of the two weeks before her wedding, she cried all night. Jack was usually out with Vicky and Terri worked nights at the hospital.

One night, the night she found out that her family couldn't be there, Jack caught Janet crying on the sofa. He went over and kissed the soon-to-be bride.

"Baby," Jack said in a concerning voice. "What are you crying for?"

"My parents nor siblings can't make it." she said whimpering. "Who is going to give me away now?"

"I will honey," Jack said turning her face so she would look at him."You're my family now. I'd be honored to do it."

"Jack, sweetheart. You're my family too. I'd love for you to give me away."

Jack let out a giggle.

"What?" said Janet now smiling.

"I can just see you now. There is no way in hell I'm not going to kiss you."

"Honey, not on the lips. Don't do that to the bride."

"I won't. But Larry on the other hand..."

They both collapse into each other's arms and start hysterically laughing.

I did kiss Larry she thought. He was so adorable to her that day. Everybody had a blast at Mr. Furley's apartment. Who could forget the best man Tony Williams? After he made his speech to the newlyweds, Phillip went to go kiss his wife but Tony did it for him!!! Phillip just laughed it off though. Oh man, did sh ecry at their first dance! It was to Billy Joel's song "Don't go changing". In fact, so did Phillip. They alos both cried when Phillip danced with his mother, Gwendolyn. Janet loved Gwendolyn, she was such a sweetheart.

She hadn't spoken to Larry in a long time even though he and Jack had remained close. She had spoken to Mr. Roper when Helen died. Terri went back to Massachusettes from Hawaii to get married to somebody Janet couldn't remember. She had lost contact with everybody else.

Though a feeling of peace came over her. She didn't really care. She moved on and had new friends with whom they all part owned a gym. Lisa, Kristina, Lindsay, and Brittany. All five independent women in theie 30's with the '90's rolling in. She decided to let the old Janet go and the new Janet go free.

Janet steps into the 5 Beautiful Women gym where she teaches aerobics. She was eager to return. She still had to lose 10 of the 40 pounds she gained with Anthony.
"Welcome back, Jan!" exclaimed friend Brittany Smith.

"Hey, Brit!"

"Girls! She's back!" she went and exclaimed to the gym staff.

One by one, her friends came out to greet her. Kristina Fetterly being the first. Lindsay Zaryiski following her. And last but not least, Lisa Dunsmore who was in her second trimester for her 4th child. She doesn't teach pre-natal yoga for nothing!

Being back felt great. She was with her best friend girlfriends who she knew would not move out on her and would always be there to catch her. It's nice to be the crazy person for a change. Just as long as you remember your spirit.
