I was doing some reading on Liz Carmichael recently and read an article that said Johnny Carson was one of Liz's supporters, a possible investor in her car and she even appeared on the Tonight Show! I don't suppose anyone caught that episode way back then? That would be a great one to see. I wonder if ole Johnny knew she was really a man when he had her on.
Can't remember how old the article was but it also said that Liz or Jerry or whoever they're going by now was currently living as a private citizen in of all places Dale, Texas.

Wow, I had no idea Liz was on the Tonight Show! I do recall the segment stating that she had been profiled in a couple of major magazines, Time and Newsweek I believe. I would really like to see that episode, too. I wonder if the old Tonight Show's are being rerun on any stations. Probably not, though.
Yes, the two followers of Liz that were on the UM segment made it pretty clear that they were sticking behind her 100%. Liz and the Dale actually surfaced in the mid-late 70's during the gas crunch. People were looking for more economical cars back then and this claimed an astonoshing 60 miles to a gallon of gas. Given the current gas prices, I'm wondering if one of Liz's five children are going to surface and market a car similar to the Dale I think this is my favorite segment of all time.

Hey man, if the Dale came out again, I'd totally buy it.

Well if the Volkswagen Beetles can have a second life, I'm sure the Dale could too!

Seems like just about everyone's changing avatars this week, so I thought I'd join in on the fun.
I was kidding earlier when I said the Dale was in the Smithsonian. However, I found out, in reality, it IS in the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. |

I was reading on the net about ole Liz and noticed someone posted on here that he/she died in February of '04. Not sure if its 100% accurate though.

Between his divorces and possible investment in this scheme, seems that Johnny wasn't always great with his money choices.

There are a lot of myths about the Tonight Show. Some of the more famous were written up in the TV Guide some years back along with other TV legends. Too bad there isn't a comprehensive list to look up who was and was not a guest.
One true thing that happened, I remember seeing, was when Johnny showed a four-year-old genius a disappearing coin trick. The kid asked, "How do you make it really disappear?" Johnny answered, "When you get married...." and the kid laughed just as if he understood perfectly! |
