Default Any tips or advice?

I'm starting a Honeymooners collection & just wanted to see if anyone here has tips/advice on how to spot "fakes."
I plan on collecting lots of things signed by Jackie, Audrey, Art & Joyce but I am starting with Art Carney first *as I said once before I just adore him.* I see many pictures signed by Art on EBay that claim they are "the real thing" but I have to wonder why they are only asking for a few bucks.
Anyway onto my question does anyone know how to spot a fake signature? *I'm trying to find a real autograph of Art's to compare it to* Or just have any advice in general about purchasing these types of things?
Sorry if this post seems silly I just don't want to spend all this money & years later find out it's all forged.

***Just realized today would have been Art's Birthday. I never realized how shortly he passed away after his Birthday *November 9th*.***

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm no expert, but I would avoid signed golf balls that are inscribed "Hello, Ball! Art Carney." I saw a few on ebay in which sellers state that it's hard to distinguish the signature because of the texture of the ball. There is a photo that has all four signatures featuring the cast hanging out the bus window that often surfaces on ebay which could at least give you an idea of what their signatures actually look like. Signatures are hard to verify as many of them are signed on the fly for fans in less than ideal circumstances. Good luck!

I think a good idea would be to go to Borders and check out all the magazines that deal with movie memorabilia, collectibles, and autograph collecting. In the back pages of each magazine you'll find listings of reputable dealers who have been in business for years and who include certificates of authenticity with everything they sell. Visit the websites of each dealer to get a good idea of what you can expect to pay for authentic collectibles. It's considered by many who are serious collectors that most autographs sold on e-bay are fakes. So be careful if you plan on making a purchase from there. I hope this helps you out. Good luck!

MrBand: Good thing you said that because of course the "Hello Ball" was the first thing I saw & wanted. Thanks for the heads up.

The Great One: What a great idea! That never even crossed my mind. I've never been a collector of anything so this is very new to me *bet you couldn't tell huh? lol* but I knew a $1.00 for an autograph seemed very off. I'll head to Borders tomorrow night & see what can I find. Thanks so much.

I'm glad I could help. If you have never been a collector of memorabilia getting the magazines is an excellent way of gaining some knowledge and finding creditable collectable dealers. Stick with it and after awhile nobody will be able to fool you with fakes.
