Trash Cinema Fans??? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What happened to all of the fans of trash cinema? I mean 70's
explotation films, low budget scfi-/horror films from the 80's, 50's B
films, Roger Corman films etc....

I consider myself a pretty good die hard fan of trash cinema and yet
it seems that I never seem to meet any other fans in social situations
(other then conventions and whatnot) in the workplace etc....

I am a cameraman for a local WI TV station and one of my duties is to
film "Chiller Theater with Ned The Dead" every week, and my fellow
co-workers that do this with me do it as part of their job and nothing
more then their job, rather the enjoying it (as I do). I have already
seen a good 3/4 of the movies Ned shows and yet my co-workers have
never even heard of most of these films, let alone seen them before
(and these are not all obscure oddball films, there are some more
"mainstream" ones like Plan 9 From Outer Space, Santa Clause Conquers
The Martians, Horror Hotel and some Godzilla films along with the films
time has forgotten), yet outside of Ned, I am the only one that knows
these movies before we air them.

I would love to find that a co-worker would know exactly what I was
talking about if I brought up how much the sets and the planetscape for
Galaxy Of Terror looked like the "Future War" of The Terminator, or
someone that could name another Roddy Piper SF film other then They
Live and who knew what a Trancer was and who has even heard of Android
(the movie) and....

Have we, the fans of trash cinema, dwindled in numbers so much that
we are in danger of being eaten by the mainstream people that have
never seen a horror movie that was made before 1990?

I am not saying that mainstream equals bad, I am just lamenting that
since mainstream is by definition MAINSTREAM (that most people would
know), it would be nice to meet other fans of non-mainstream films once
in a while.

While I much prefer the crime and mysteries of the 30's and 40's with a particular interest in the haunted mansion who-dunnits, and the film noirs, I do have these trashy Sci-fi/horror in my collection. All in excellent quality.

I love the old trash. In fact, crappy trash of all eras is good in my book- flick on a late night movie channel and you can be sure there'll be a bit of escapism there you can laugh at with your friends.

To me, still the best is the old beat up house, on the top of the hill, owned by a guy about 90. He is found stabbed to death in the library. His brother hated him as did his sister. His niece and her no good husband have been stealing from him for years. The accountant wanted him dead for he was embezzling of him for years and the butler has held a grudge for thirty years. The gardener is always snooping around and a nephew is shown to be batty. Toss in a few more suspects, a bungling detective and a young reporter and you have the making of a good yarn.

That's my stuff and I have a ton of those.

In movies all I save is B stuff.

I can't say I'm a fan of the old horror movies, but I'm also not a fan of the new ones. Too much focus on the blood & gore & no creativity in the plot (if there is a plot). And we all know the teenaged girl who doesn't put out is the one who will be alive at the end.

After the war there was the nuclear bomb threat and how mutants could develop from excessive radiation. Drive-ins became popular in the early 50's and the cheaply made sci-fi and horror flicks became popular. You could put your arm around your favorite girl and scream together. No one really cared what played and some of these low budget films were a perfect vehicle. I can remeber going to a saturday matinee and seeing the best double feature I ever saw. Invasion of the body snatchers and invaders from Mars. You could hear a pin drop, we were so scared. I think I peed in my pants twice. To see those pods come to life, that was something. Now it's a hatchet and something that looks like blood. Maybe you had to be a kid to enjoy that stuff.

But I guess I wouldn't class Invasion of the Body Snatchers as trash cinema. Just like War of The Worlds. I guess I think of those as classics. Plus, they had real stars in them. (Maybe Kevin McCarthy & Gene Barry weren't stars at the time they made the movies, tho?)

Not quite on par with Invasion of the Bee Gees (or whatever it is) or Attack of the Crab Monster?

BUT, I just remembered a modern horror movie that I'd class as a C movie (is there such a thing?) Attack of the Killer Klowns, I think is the title.

I still can't get into that stuff. Yesterday I finished for the second time, first was about 15 years ago, the entire run of the Falcon movies, with George Sanders and then his brother Tom Conway in the leads. After 15 years I forgot the murderers and it was like watching for the first time.

I'm way off topic but the best crime and mystery movies to me were Edna Mae Oliver as Hildergarde Withers, and Margaret Rutherford as Jane Marple. If you have never seen them, treat yourself.

Trancers are people under a "Trance" by Martin Whistler who are hunted by Jack Deth. Before They Live was Hell Comes to Frogtown, I also have an awesome exercise tape for kids starring Roddy Piper who spends half the movie talking about how hard his life was.... then he makes all the kids scream like chickens (his words not mine)

I think I dominate trash cinema on this board

I would post my list but last time I did it turned into a huge thing because my list was too "obscene" so I PM'd it to you

I have a pretty massive list of Trash Cinema titles. I'm a huge fan of the genre.

Stumpy's got some good stuff as well, that Piper work out tape is pretty entertaining.

I love trash/drive-in/grindhouse movies from the mid 60's to the early 80's. I was never really to big on 50's monsters or anything like that. I also like the silent films too. I don't mean Charlie Chaplin or Keystone Kops. I like the no-good bad girl flappers and the dramatic actresses that are forgotten.

I actually have a whole room in my house filled with tapes and DVDs.
