When we think about Match Game, it's all about Gene Rayburn, Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Sommers. They were truly what the classic game show was all about, funny, exciting, and well, you get the rest of the story. Now, the last two incarnations of Match Game lacked both the interraction and the comical chemistry of the host and the panelists that Gene Rayburn had with Brett and CNR. Now, Gene's been gone for 7 years, now, and Charles and Brett, for the most part, are semi-retired. Now, when we think about the interraction and the comradery of the host and the panelists, Match Game could be good, again, but it would have to take the right kind of talent to make the show work again. For instance, in my opinion, the "Lovemaster" comic, Craig Shoemaker, has hosted VH1's short-lived game show My Generation, and has also been a panelist on the most recent incarnation of Hollywood Squares, probably could host Match Game, and his fellow Hollywood Squares panelists, Bruce Vilanch, also a well-known comedy writer, and Kathy Griffin, a comedienne whom we've also seen on both Comedy Central and Bravo cable channels, could not only serve on the show's panel, but also trade funny quips with each other. The celebrity panel should fit six panelists, just like the Gene Rayburn incarnation of Match Game. There should also be three rounds of questions and two audience matches, just like the nightime edition in the late 70s and early 80s. Instead of the star wheel, the dollar value for the audience match should go up: $1000 for the most popular match, $500 for the second and $250 for the third. Only $100 for any answers that don't make the top three. Once again, 10x the amount of money claimed from the two audience matches will be played for in the ultimate head to head match in which the contestant would select one of the six celebrities to match. Those are just my thoughts as far as if Match Game could be resurrected, with Craig Shoemaker, Bruce Vilanch and Kathy Griffin driving the show. Now, if Match Game could be resurrected, who would you have in mind to host the show and who would be the two regular panelists to help drive the show? Please post now!
