Default Who Should Be Considered to Replace Bob Barker?

With Bob Barker stepping down from The Price is Right in June, the big question is who should be considered to replace him? One candidate that would be perfect but he's 75 is Geoff Edwards. He has experience with audience participation shows, including The New Treasure Hunt and The Big Spin. He also subbed for Monty Hall on Let's Make a Deal. But what would work in his favor is the fact that he had to memorize about 90 different acts for The New Treasure Hunt and now he would have to memorize the rules to all 80 pricing games.

Realistically, here are my top choices for the new TPIR host:

1. Todd Newton. Also hosts several casino versions.
2. Marc Summers. A big Barker fan.
3. Donny Osmond. Has a vibrant personality. But if a Name That Tune revival is a go, there could be conflicts.
4. Rich Fields. If the current announcer becomes the new host, my prediction is that Burton Richardson will be the new announcer.

I've been in and out on several boards the last day or so and I've heard many, many suggestions, thoughts, and rumors...

To me, good suggestions...

Todd Newton... Todd's hosted TPIR Live in Las Vegas for a while now, so he has experience, and word has it that he's been going to tapings and he's been taking notes. I personally think that he'd be good, under one condition. He's hosted two Game Show Network original programs... Hollywood Showdown, which was a game show that tested people's knowledge on TV shows, movies, and music. He had great energy on that show and interacted with the contestants really well. If he kept this same style of hosting, then I think he'd excel on TPIR. However, I didnt like how overly loud and excited he was on the second GSN show Whammy!, a revivial of the classic Press Your Luck. As long as he can tone it down, I think that he'll do fine.

Bil Dwyer... He's seems to have a really funny and genuine personality, and he to me he hosted the revival for I've Got A Secret pretty well. And I think he has the right amount of energy.

Marc Summers... people in the 18-40 demo would know this guy from Double Dare. He does his best with shows that allow him to show his talents and I think he'd fit great on that. He's also hosted the a stage version of TPIR before, so he's also had experience.

Chuck Woolery... Someone brought him up at the GSN boards, and I think he'd be a decent pick, he's hosted several game shows and he's still doing GSN's Lingo now... he's great at contestant interaction, a lot of viewers know him young and old. The only real weakness is the mastery of his show, but he'll get it down.

Too bad Howie Mandel is hosting Deal or No Deal, and is about to host the Canadian version of it soon. He turned out to be a great host, much to my surprise.

Suggestions I say..."HELL to the no!!"
Louie Anderson... if you thought he was tired on Family Feud, well, I dont even wanna consider the possibilities.
Danny Bonaduce... Even though I find this guy rather annoying, he does do a fairly decent job hosting Game Show Network's Starface... but no way on earth is he TPIR caliber.
Star Jones-Reynolds... all of a sudden, Louie Anderson doesnt sound too bad.

He still writes travel stuff and so forth, but he's retired from show business now.

Let's clear this up, Bob Barker will be succeeded, not replaced. On that note, the man I definitely believe will most likely succeed Bob Barker as host of The Price is Right will be Todd Newton. He's hosted the show live in Las Vegas and he's been at the show's tapings in Los Angeles, taking important notes. Bob Barker might be grooming Todd Newton to succeed him and carry the show. Rich Fields will remain the show's announcer, and at the same time, continue working as a weather specialist on local television. Marc Summers can also be considered. Also to be considered should be radio DJ, former MTV VJ and former host of WGN's old Illinois' Instant Riches game show, Mark Goodman. Between Newton, Summers and Goodman, I believe Todd Newton will get the nod to succeed Bob Barker as host of The Price is Right.

They are not going to replace Barker with anybody. On other game shows when the host retires they do not replace the host with somebody else, they cease production of the game show and they will probably cease production of The Price Is Right, which would be a good thing if they ceased production of that game show because the contestents do not act with class and sophistication, they act like a bunch of morons.

Once again, CBS and Fremantle have made it clear, the show will NOT be ending when Bob leaves. Too much of CBS's success in daytime is tied into the springboard that 'Price' gives its affiliates. You can't be that sentimental when you're a television executive looking at ratings...that's just the way it is.

What could be good for fans of the show is that because CBS wants the show to continue to do well, they should be heaping lots of pressure on Fremantle not to make huge, sweeping changes, but to make the show as watchable as it has been all these years. In that respect, CBS could be our biggest ally here.

Also, I'm still hoping for Marc Summers.

I hope so too and I agree that they shouldnt make any drastic changes. The host is enough of a change, especially in this case. Changing the theme, set, etc. would be just too much that would be crammed down people's throats and they wont come back. This is one of those situations where a whole bunch of changes isnt necessary.

Yeah, I read this week that he is in the running. He even taped an "audition" episode a while back.

Yes he did & he apparently did some guest hosting stints on the stage version for todd newton in vegas & from what people tell me, he bombed big time. We could have another letterman vs leno situation building here guys.

It seems like the executives in NY want Dave Price, but on the west coast they are not so fond of that idea. I agree with the west coast. I could be dead wrong, but Dave price just doesn't seem to be price material.

Anybody who likes The Price Is Right game show is totally sick and demented. Most of the contestants act like a bunch of morons instead of acting with class and sophistication.
