Talking JumpTheShark.com pointed out intresting points about Penny!(Janet Jackson)

JTS pointed out things about Penny that I'd really never given much thought to before, and then relaized they were kind of true!

Posters wrote different things about Penny. Disclaimer: I am paraphrasing)

Poster number 1. 'Why did Janet Jackson(Penny) always have a bun hairstyle? It was like every episode, she had a bun hairstyle. Didn't this girl have any other hairstyles?

Poster number 2. "Ok not really a baby, but the character of Penny (as played by the pre-fierce miss janet jackson). Ouch, the way her mother approached her with the iron. The audience in typical Good Times Style reacted big time with an overwhelming collective 'whoooooo'. We knew tough times were coming for our poor Penny. up to this point it was ok - standard moral/social issue stuff we'd expect from All in the Family in the projects. But when Wilona adopts Penny and she becomes a happy, well-adjusted cast member (with no hint of her abused past) this is where it all goes wrong."

Poster Number 3. "When Janet Jackson joined the cast - obviously her gratuitous casting not only served to further capitalize on the 70s Jacksons popularity, but also was a feeble attempt to keep GT afloat. GT proved Janet cannot act her way out of a paper bag and should stick to singing like the rest of the Jacksons. All Janet (Penny) would do was stand there like a grinning idiot and pretend like she had a mad crush on that eyesore JJ of ALL people! Michael and Keith were HOT and Penny would make eyes at JJ??!! Uhuh, yeah right!"

Thelma also wore her hair up. I guess it was too much trouble to deal with leaving the hair down, constant touch-ups, styling, brushing, etc. in between takes.

Another funny thing said about Penny from a JTS poster.................... "Seeing Penny clap her hands and ask,"Where's Kid Dynomite?", really creeped me out. I am shocked that Janet Jackson has been able to have a great career, in spite of her acting on Good Times and on Different Strokes."

I think the reason Thelma always wore her hair up is because it made her look younger.

Janet Jackson's characters in Diff'rent Strokes, Fame, and Good Times was the typical useless character that would become more forgetable as time went on.
