I think season1 was the best season that captured just how poor the Evans family was. With that said, I noticed something in season 1 that was very inconsistent with their poverty. In the episode where the man from the Housing Authority comes to visit, JJ brags to Thelma how he has tickets to a Marvin Gaye concert.
I know things were cheaper in the early 70's, but where the heck did JJ (who didn't have a job) get money for concert tickets?!? The rest of the season showed how James worked his ass off for what little money the family had and here is JJ with a luxury item. I think it was a big mishap from the writers. |
