As a general rule, when books are made into movies, the movie is usually not as good as the book. I can only think of 2 exceptions to this rule -

'Fight Club' - briliant idea but on paper it doesn't really work. Seeing it on screen makes everything a lot clearer. Also, the ending in the book SUCKED!

'Stand By Me' - not so much a book, more of a short story but it had a lot of unnecesary clutter in the narrative that was wisely left out of the movie. 'Stand By Me' is, by the way, the best movie ever made.

What movies do you guys reckon were better than the books they came from?

Thebook "Lord Of The FLies" was a crappy book, but then both of the movies were really good, especially the 1960 something version.

Gotta disagree, I thought Lord of the Flies was an excellent book! I haven't seen either movie though, so who knows, I guess they could be better.....

When speaking in terms of Lord Of The Flies, I must agree that the movie is definatly better. Although, I didn't think the book was all that bad tho.
