Cool The BLAIR Appreciation Thread

Okay, Blair is far from perfect. She is shallow, self-centered, vain, she thinks that the whole world revolves around her. Still, how can anyone not love Blair? What is it that makes Blair so special though? I think that Blair has a really big heart and like Jo said in "Less Than Perfect" she's Blair and there is no one else like her. Anyway, this thread is for everyone to share their opinions on what makes Blair so special.

It's nice to see a thread dedicated to my favorite character. Like you said, she has a really big heart and she showed that in the Christmas episode where she tries to give Jo the airplane ticket to Miami so Jo could be with her Mom on Christmas. Another episode that shows her having a big heart is when she let's Jo have the bed by the window after she had to sell her motorcycle.
I also just think she is one of the funniest on the show, like when she is singing in a Julie Andrews voice about getting a divorce in the Marriage Brokers. It's hilarious.

I liked Blair: She was clearly a product of her social class. I remember how Jo had problems with people doing good things for her, thinking she had to reciprocate. Blair says, "I do something for you--and you let me do it." I thought that was very noble.

Blair is, and always was, my fav on FOL. Why? Well to be honest I still have an unrequited crush on actress Lisa Whelchel. Blair has lots of good qualities, her generosity, her sense of humor, her loyalty to her friends. Some one with Blair's upbringing and mutltiple stepdads and moms and absentee Father, could have been a real bitch. Sure, Blair could be bitchy, but underneath was a real friend. There isn't much better in the world.

It's official: This is the best SO thread ever!

I LOVE Blair Warner! She's my favorite Facts Of Life character. Why?, well let's see, she was gorgeous. And hysterical! She was also "Brilliant." Lisa Whelcel played that character so well. She never got stale, like some TV Characters do after awhile. I liked that even though her nose was always up in the air, her heart was always in the right place. And she had alot of problems, as someone mentioned in an above post. Her life wasn't so perfect at all, and that's what made the character so special. And just simply put, Blair rocks!

ALTHOUGH JO HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE, I MUST SAY THAT I HAVE MUCH MORE APPRECIATION FOR BLAIR NOW, THAN WHEN I WAS GROWING UP WITH FACTS.

I LOVED THE WAY JO WOULD JUST PUT BLAIR IN HER PLACE, I STILL DO. BUT AS AN ADULT, I HAVE TAKEN NOTICE OF HOW KIND BLAIR IS. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT OVER THE YEARS, ESPECIALLY WHERE JO WAS CONCERNED, THAT SHE WENT OUT OF HER WAY TO HELP HER FRIEND OUT.

YES, EVEN THOUGH JO WAS VERY LOYAL TO THOSE SHE LOVED, SO WAS BLAIR. JO MAY HAVE TRIED HER UTMOST TO PROTECT THOSE AROUND HER IN HER OWN WAY, BUT SO DID BLAIR. SHE DID IT WITH ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO HER-MONEY. NOW THAT MIGHT SEEM SHALLOW, BUT MONEY IS WHAT SHE KNOWS. IT'S PART OF HER. HER UPBRINGING, AND AS VAIN AND MATERIALISTIC IT MAY BE, IT IS WHAT SHE HOLDS DEAR. COULD YOU IMAGINE BLAIR WITHOUT MONEY? SHE COULDN'T.

BUT WHAT MAKES BLAIR AN OUTSTANDING FRIEND IS WHAT SHE TRIES TO DO WITH HER MONEY. OVER AND OVER AGAIN, SHE TRIES TO HELP JO, BE IT SNEAKILY OR NOT, ALTHOUGH MOST EVERY TIME, BECAUSE OF HER PRIDE, JO REFUSES. KNOWING HOW JO WOULD REACT TO ANYONE TRYING TO ASSIST HER, ESPECIALLY BLAIR, BLAIR WOULD TRY TO REASON WITH JO, OR TRY TO PURSUADE HER TO TAKE IT. AT THOSE TIMES, SHE WAS TOTALLY SELFLESS. SHE WASN'T HER USUAL, IN-YOUR-FACE WEALTHY SNOB. RATHER, SHE WAS A GENEROUS, TRUE COMPANION AND LOVING FRIEND.

AND YES, BLAIR WAS VERY FUNNY IN HER OWN RIGHT! LISA WHELCHEL IS SUCH A TALENTED, AND UNDERRATED ACTRESS, FOR SURE!

I THINK BOTH LISA WHELCHEL AND NANCY MCKEON CHANGED FACTS. NOT ONLY DUE TO THEIR DYNAMIC CHEMISTY TOGETHER ON SCREEN, BUT WHAT EACH OF THEM BROUGHT. SINCE THIS IS A THREAD ON LISA, I WILL FOCUS ON HER.

DO YOU REALIZE THAT IT WAS LISA WHELCHEL THAT MAY HAVE HAD THE GREATEST INFLUENCE OVER WHY THIS SHOW LASTED SO LONG? NOW, THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, OF COURSE; AND YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I ADORE NANCY & JO, BUT I HAVE TO GIVE LISA HER PROPS, AND THIS IS WHY:

BLAIR WAS DESIGNED TO BE A FAST-TALKING GIRL FROM TEXAS. WHEN LISA WENT IN TO READ FOR THE PART OF BLAIR, SHE READ HER LINES, BUT THERE WAS ONE LINE IN PARTICULAR WHICH SHE CHANGED. SHE READ IT AS A SARCASTIC SNOB, AND HENCEFORTH THE "REAL BLAIR" WAS CONCEIVED. NOW THINK ABOUT THAT. DO YOU THINK THE DYNAMICS OF THE SHOW, ESPECIALLY THE INTER-PLAY WITH BLAIR AND JO WOULD BE THE SAME IF SHE WAS ONLY A FAST-TALKING TEXAN? NO WAY! IT WOULDN'T EVEN COME CLOSE. DO YOU THINK FACTS WOULD'VE LASTED 9 YEARS? DO YOU THINK SHE AND JO WOULD HAVE BECOME SO INTERESTING TO WATCH? THE DYNAMIC DUO? I TRULY DON'T THINK SO.

SO WHEN LISA SAYS THAT SHE KNOWS WHAT BLAIR WOULD THINK OR SAY AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT, I'D HAVE TO AGREE. AFTERALL, SHE'S THE CREATOR OF ONE OF THE MOST BELOVED CHARACTERS YOU LOVE TO HATE AND THEN LOVE, AND THEN BOO AND THEN CHEER, AND THEN LAUGH, THEN CRY.

SO YOU GO MRS. WARNER-WARNER! I'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU FOR A FRIEND ANYDAY AND WHY WOULDN'T I? AFTERALL, I'M JO jr

Blair was a great character. Just like everyone else said even though she was a spoiled she had a heart of gold. Family was one of the most important things to her I remember when she was in love with that guy Ben from spring break eps she told him she wanted a family a real family one with brothers and sister and 1 father. I mean Blair had good morals and values like when she was dating Casey he asked her to move in with him and she was like no I want to get married and he didn't and she couldn't just live with him.

Even though Blair was spoiled she still cared for people even her school when they were thinking of closing Eastland she was like they can't just do that it was my 2nd home. So she ended up using her trust fund to buy the school and then she even took on the role as Principle of the school.

I know Blair could be pretty stuck up once in a while like the ep when her and Cliff broke up she dated all these guys and stayed out really late and tried to bring guys up to her room and Mrs. Garrett was all worried about her and her behavior and she tried to put Blair in her place and Blair got all mad and told Mrs. Garrett she wasn't her mother. But she could be a very caring person like when the girls heard Mrs. Garrett was having trouble with high blood pressure they all pitched in to help do thing for her I remember Blair was telling everyone ok you do this and I will do this. The ep when we first meet her cousin Geri, Blair was upset she was there cause she thought Geri was going to steal all her thunder but then she realized how selfish she was and told her cousin that she loved her in front of everyone. Even the ep On the Edge where Blair thought Jo was going to Jump of a ledge and it ended up being a social worker that Jo befriended and Blair was all worried she went up to the window near the ledge and gave a nice speech to get Jo from Jumping off the ledge even though Jo wasn't going to do that Blair still cared enough to help her.

Like I said at the top Blair was a great character. There are 2 eps that I thought were great Blair eps and they were Less Than Perfect and Dear Apple. I choose Less then perfect because I think it show all sides to Blair her loyalty to her friends by wanting to help Pippa with a school paper and she felt bad she couldn't help her after that accident, sadness when she first see's how banged up she was from her car accident, how caring she can be when she had that heartfelt moment with Jo and how shallow she can be when she wanted to break up with Casey just cause she had this huge scare on her forehead she thought he wouldn't like her anymore due to that so she wanted to spear him by breaking up with him. And I choose Dear Apple because I just think Lisa did Blair really well in that ep. Like when she came back from the Helen of Troy contest and her crown was crooked and she had a big black streak down the back of her dress and she lost a heal on one of her high heels that was just so funny. And when she wanted to get Jo back from not telling her the contest was moved and these guys came to pick her up for a school meeting and Jo was still up in the bathroom getting ready and Blair told them Jo wanted them to go upstairs and get her and she told them to go the bathroom but she told them that was there room instead of the bathroom and so they went up there Natalie was like that's not where our room is and then you hear JO yelling HEY WOE. I thought that was a great Blair revenge ep. Lisa really played Blair great like Jo Jr. said if Lisa wouldn't of done Blair the way she did when she auditioned facts probably wouldn't of lasted as long as it did and Jo and Blair scenes wouldn't of been as good.

Default Lisa vs. "Blair"

I'm all for giving Blair her props. Over the seasons, Blair was a character who continually revealed her "human" side. For all her arrogance and conceit, Blair had a conscious.

However, I've always been rather fascinated by the fact that Lisa Whelchel is a kind, down-to-earth, unpretensious person, unlike Blair. Lisa admits to being quite shy in meeting fans in her early days. She was and continues to be very committed to her Christian faith. Aside from get-togethers with her church friends, Lisa's social outings during her FOL days were minimal. Surprisingly, Lisa had few boyfriends. She couldn't be more different than Blair Warner, in real life. And that's what fascinates me. . . how a young woman and her TV alter ego were so opposites.

Were it possible, "Blair" would love to sign autographs. It would only heighten her already overinflated self-esteem. Lisa, though, was apparently uncomfortable with being a celebrity. She lived for her faith, and celebrity status merely paid her bills.

As fun as Blair is to watch, I'd rather have Lisa Whelchel for a friend, any day.

I think Lisa is a truly great person in real life. I read her book The Facts of Life earlier this year and I get monthly emails from her official webpage and she always comes across as a wonderful human being with a big heart. I also think that out of all the FOL actors that Lisa was the greatest comical actress just as Nancy was best dramatic actress.

I totally agree with you Lisa is a truly great person. She is one of my role models I mean how many celebrities you see are such huge Christians, not many. I think that is one reason I like her so much is how big a Christian she is. I always enjoy reading her journals especially when she has some bible verse or story she tells and she tells these stories in hopes that it will inspire the people that read her journals to try and get closer to the lord, for example at the end of this weeks journal she wrote: I hope you are able to find a few moments this week to sit in the presence of the Lord and be filled with His strength and joy. That is on reason she is my role model cause she hopes by telling her life stories about how she came to the lord will inspire others to come to the lord & she also prays for people who read her journal entries even if she has never meant them cause she feels they care enough to come and take time to learn and listen to her life she should care for us to.

Blair isn't my favorite character, but I have to give her and Lisa her props. The show wouldn't be the same without Blair and of course Blair loved her friends just as they all did. She was actually (usually) fiercely loyal.

Lisa was also a pretty great comedic actress as they all were. Also a testament that she played a character so different than her own real life persona.

Oh my god! this is the best comments i read so far in this SITCOM ONLINE BOARD lol! I m with you guys: BLAIR was the main character on the show along with JO & MRS. G (NAT & TOOTIE came as second best)as well as my favourite! She was so much more than meets the eyes + you didn t know what to expect from her (not even JO did ha ha); She was anything but boring & the fact that she was supposed to be the " naughty one" made me like her more.......
