Default Why was Florence so afraid to move up in the World?-lol

In Florence's New Job Part 1, the owner of the Hote was offering Florence a Position as Executive Housekeeper and she was like-"Well I never did anything like that before" and then he said-"Oh don't worry you will be in a job training program and then florence says-"Is it hard? HUH??-lol I was like why is this woman who is getting up in age not JUMPING at the opportunity to make a better life for herself? The man saw something in her and I guess she was like Florida Evans, so used to being POOR that she was afraid of Change. It just looked so dumb for her to not take a shot at making a better life for herself. She couldn't have been that dumb. Was she content with living with a married couple for the rest of her life?-lol When I was 24, a year out of college, I was a telemarketer because I had to do something to bring money in and when I was approached by someone to become a Career Advisor FOR MORE MONEY, I had sense enough to take the Opportunity and not worry about if I was able to do the job because you have to take challenges in life not just stay in one spot. Ok I'm done now-lol

BTW: even in season 1, George wanted Florence to do some serving and she says-"I NEVER DID THAT BEFORE" which led to George saying-"WE KNOW THAT BUT WE ARE TRYING TO MOVE YOU UP IN THE WORLD"

lol

tvresearcher I completely agree with you, I think maybe she had found a comfort zone with the Jefferson. They were like family to her, she really didnt work much around the apartment. Florence knew she had it good with the Jeffersons and did not want to leave that zone. I am also sure that he had something to do with fear, fear of the unknown

It's a shame it was no agression on her part to try and do better since she claimed she wanted to start a family one day. It would have been hard to start a family living with the jeffersons-lol

you are right about that, could you see Florence and her family living with the Jeffersons? Especially if she had kids with the same sassy mouth as hers. lol

I think George was always alluding to that jokingly (that she never cleaned). The apartment was always spotless. Either she did clean, or the Jeffersons cleaned up after themselves all the time (which isn't hard to believe with Louise being a former maid). But I think Florence did clean.
