Default What would it take for you to rebuy your sets in HD?

As far as the HD format, is it possible for them to say, reformat an older show like The Bob Newhart Show in true widescreen and give it 5.1 sound?

I have noticed all the rage seems to be "picture" commentary for the HD sets, but Rosanne on regular dvd already has it!

I think I would only rebuy my sets for shows like Starsky and Hutch that had a lot of action, that is if they have 5.1 digital dolbly. You don't think they would release an old show with HD picture quality and then have "mono" for the sound do you? That would be a waste.

i have to many regular dvd set to make a switch. the only way i could switch is that they could make a dvd/hd dvd stero that play's both HD AND REGULAR DVD in one stero. then maybe i would love to switch. i'm not saying that i would replace all my dvd's for HD, but i would swich from dvd to HD from that point on.

Exactly!! I have over 500 movies and TV series on regular dvd. I made the switch from video to dvd and I doubt I'll do it again for HD.

Nothing. I'm in the process of transferring thousands and thousands of tapes to DVD. This will be the last format switch of my lifetime. When I die, let whoever inherits my collection worry about it.

no way in hell; i dont own an HDTV set, and have no plans to get one in the near future - i won't be going HDTV until the FCC brreaks down the door and takes away my current TV. (which is apparently their plan?)

FCC is just switiching all signals to digital in 2009...

I think i'd buy some sets when they are released on Blu Ray, since I plan on buying a PlayStation 3..Which plays blu ray discs...

I'd replace them slowly...I'm sure by the time my whole collection is HD,It's successor will debut and it WILL happen.

It's the broadcast stations that make the switch to high-definition. All stations must do this by February 2009.

And I'm not going to rebuild my DVD collection which I'm so proud of. Should be the compatability of playing either DVD format(s).

You would think so, but the idiots out there want us spending more money to convert. I can see it happening that you won't be able to play the dvd's anymore.
