What happened to theme songs anyway? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

When was the last time you heard a TV show actually have a theme song? There have been many annoying trends in TV during the past few years that have been discussed in detail on other boards. One that I find particularly disturbing is the lack of theme songs to be found in most current prime time TV series, which have been reduced to 5 and 10 second sound bites featuring the show's title and main characters, and that's it. To further explore this mystery and to explain why TV theme songs have become an endangered species, I found this article on Yahoo! that might make things a little clearer:

What do you think? Does this bother you like it does me? It's not like it takes up a lot of valuable time. Some of the best themes from the past were only about a minute long. This is another reason why I normally watch older shows rather than the current crap that's now on. Give me "Green Acres" and "Gilligan's Island" any day over "Seinfeld". Their themes were just too cool to pass up. Say, does anyone even know the theme to "Seinfeld"?

Anyone?

It can be chalked up to money, the producers just aren't willing to spend the money to have themes songs written and performed, but instead opt for loops or no opening at all.

It's really sad. They really are taking away one of the joys of watching television for me anyway.
