This is not a ghost story, but it is a wonder.

I was walking alone on a trail along a creek in an old-growth redwood forest. I came to a section where I, adventurously, wanted to cross the creek. This was early spring so the water wasn't high but I would need to scale a shaley cliff to get down to the creek. I slipped and slid down the cliff, doing acrobatic twists like a skier to keep from getting mangled. At the bottom, I was shaking and felt nauseated but didn't seem to be badly hurt. Except, I discovered, my gold ring, a very important ring, had been wrenched from my finger. The singing sound that it had made as it bounced off of the rocks, clearly replayed in my mind. With little hope of finding it among the rocks and the running stream, I looked all over until I was emotionally exausted. Then I went to sleep for awhile under the giant trees before going home, facing the sad reality of having lost something irreplaceable.

The next day, I could think of little else, and so I went back to look again. Only, I didn't look for it in the ordinary methods. Instead I sat by the creek in one place and then another and another; listening to the sound of the water and of the woods, until tranquility guided my vision. Under the flowing stream, and settled beside one of the millions of rocks, the ring appeared, gleaming in the sunlight. Not quite believing what I was seeing, I walked across the rocks to where I had seen the shimmer. The ring was there. I picked it up and placed it on my finger. Trivial? Yes. But it was an encouraging reprieve in a seemingly unsympthetic world.

A couple of years ago, my best friend and
I were at my house and we were just goofing off taking pictures and playing
with my old Ouiga board(I hope I spelled
that right). We had the pictures developed the very next day. When we got
back to my house, we looked through the
pictures. In one of the pictures, we had
noticed in one othe pictures was a picture of a ghost like baby carriage. Of
course, we were a bit spooked by it. Later on, we were watching tv and all of
a suddden we heard noises calling out
our names, so that definitely got us
nervous. Later on that night, while my
parents were out, my friend and I were
there alone, still watching tv and just
out of no where, we heard more strange
sounds. By that time, we were totally
freaked out. After that happened, we decided to leave the house and go down to
the park. A little while later, my friend
had noticed something wondering around my
house(actually my moms house). We did and
didn't want to go back to the house. Knowing it was night and Halloween and
there are some pretty sick weirdos out on
Halloween we went back to the house. So,
we checked the outside and inside of the
house, everything was fine. So, when we
finally calmed down, we were fine. My mom
and step-dad arrived back home. The very
next day, we saw my old Ouiga board and
it was in perfect condition, which was
weird, because we tried to burn it. When
we burned tried to burn it, most of it
was burnt, but then it was in perfect
condition.

Once all that happened, especially about
the Ouiga board, I get scared very easily
now. If you think that sounds bad, I've
heard some much worse scary stories, a
few of them involved the Ouiga board,
Bloody Mary and a few more other bad
things. Come to my surprise, all the
stories I've been told, really did happen! I've even tried doing that whole
thing about Bloody Mary, but I refused to
look in the mirror, but my best friend
did and apparently she saw Bloody Mary,
I'm not sure if that's true or not, I was
wayyyyyy to scared to look.

I remember the story of Bloody Mary. Ha! It was told to me by a very sick-minded girl. She loved those kinds of things.

Fol and gi rock, I wouldn't mind reading both stories; as long as I will be able to sleep.

I enjoyed your story kittflynn. You have a real gift with words that I must admit I am somewhat jealous of. I like to write, and consider myself half-decent, but not as good as you. Have you ever written a book or considered it? I would love to write a book someday. It is not my career aspiration, but if I ever had the time I would love to get a book published someday.

Anyhoo....on to my "ghost" story. Well, this isn't really a ghost story..just some strange things that have happened in my house, that make me a little unnerved sometimes. Sometimes I like to think my house is haunted, just for fun. But some of this stuff is kind of weird.

Ok, well the first thing is really minor, but in my basement (which is furnished) I never liked being down there by myself at night. Whenever I would sit in the gold chair and watch TV, I always felt like there was a presence down there watching me. I always felt this presence to be in the very back of the basement, over by our dartboard and behind the pool table. Well the thing that makes this slightly remarkable is that I have been told by at least 2 other people who have had occasion to spend the night in my basement (we have a couch down there that pulls out into a bed, so sometimes guests sleep down there) that they felt weird down there and they felt like something was watching them. What makes that strange is I never told anyone my feelings about the basement, not even my parents, until they had told me. When I told them how I felt, they confirmed that they too felt like something was over in the corner by the dartboard.

Also, just like in the basement, I always felt a presence in the living room, over in the corner by the window. As a child, I never liked having to walk across the foyer which runs in front of the dining room to go upstairs to bed. (When I was a kid I always felt the upstairs was a sort of sanctuary or a safe place for some reason). So I got into this habit of when it was time for bed, I would bolt running across the foyer until I could race upstairs and be safe, because I didn't want that presence in the living room to "see" me. It got so ingrained in me to do this that when I got older I actually had to consciously train myself to walk in the foyer. The thing that makes this also kind of freaky is that ghost experts claim that dogs can see ghosts. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that my dog has been known to stand in the foyer barking into the living room for no apparent reason, facing that ominous corner.

Another thing....I was home alone one night because my sister was in the hospital and my parents were there with her. Whenever I am home alone I leave many lights on throughout the house so it looks like many people are home. So after I took a shower, I turned the light on in my sister's bedroom and went downstairs to watch Lois and Clark. The next time I went upstairs, her light was off. No big deal, I thought. Maybe the bulb burned out. Maybe the plug came loose. I decided to flip the switch to see if the bulb was burnt out or something, and that's when I realized that the switch was physically in the "off" position. Now there are all sorts of theories one could come up with as to why a light might turn off, but I can think of no reason or way how that the switch could be physically moved to the off position.

One last thing, and I think this is what freaked me out the most. One day I was cleaning up the kitchen. While doing so, I had opened one of our cabinets, and on the inside of the cabinet door we have a calendar hanging on a nail. I turned my back on the open door so that I could whipe down the countertop. I heard a weird scraping sound and when I turned around I saw the calendar swinging violently on the nail, swinging like a viking ship at an amusement park, only its arc of movement was even bigger...it almost did a 360 but not quite. Being the analytical person I am, I immediately checked for something that might have caused this. I checked to see if someone had walked by. Nope, I was alone. I checked to see if the window was open, or if the air conditioner had suddenly clicked on somehow causing a big draft. No open window, no air. Even if something had caused a draft, I don't see how a simple draft could have caused the calender to move the way it did or as violently as it did.

Anyway, well there's my little ghost stories of weird stuff that has happened in my house. I got goose bumps writing this post. Thanks for a good scare (or remembrance of one) on Halloween, Max.

Your welcome Boots. I'd love to check out that house of yours.

I've got one of those real life stories actually.

On Halloween(yesterday) or a little bit before the day started, My Grandmother was home alone. She was watching tv..... Scared yet? Then she felt her hair lift like someone was lifting it but there was nobody there.

Here's a short one that I saw on Real Scary Stories. A girl was sitting on a grave in a graveyard and when she tried to get up she felt like something was pulling her back but she turned around and there was nothing there but she could still feel it pulling her. I might have misunderstood it but when she was finally able to get up there was a snake and the ghost that had been pulling her back was doing it so she wouldn't run into the snake or something like that.

And of course it really happened cause it was on REAL scary stories.

Thanks Bootsy Whoosh. I thrive on encouragement. I've written short stories and am always considering or working on another. I liked your ghost story. I've become more intersted of late about ghosts and have been meaning to read-up on the subject. Some of the people on the board have read a story I wrote about Dana Plato. If you haven't (under some alias) look to the post titled,"A time with Dana." It's on page two, currently, of the DS board. There is info about it there.
