Default Flu Shots

I was talking with a coworker yesterday about flu shots. Despite the fact that we work in an elementary school, we're both hesitant to get flu shots, because for both of us, out first and only flu shot led us to have our sickest winter ever. I got one in 2002 and I was sicker than I was the years before or after. Her husband was the same way, as was my father. Has anyone else noticed this?

My doctors tell me that as someone with an auto-immune disease who is taking three medications that inhibit my immune system, I should get a flu shot. So I'm getting one tomorrow at work. It'll be my first flu shot. I'm nervous about it, as well, but if my doctors say I should do it, I'll do it.

I have had flu shots since they started and my first one I certainly got sick for a few days but did not get the flu the rest of the winter.

Medical professionals take a best guess at which strains of the flu are going to be the most prevailant that season and the shot is meant to innoculate against those strains, other strains you are still suseptable to. 2 years ago the shot was pretty much useless as the docs guessed wrong. I can honestly say that in over 10 years I have gotten the flu only once, myself and one other who had the shot were sick for 2 days where the rest of our entire office was off for 1 week on average. Other than that I have gotten ill but not the flu.

Many people confuse a very bad cold with the flu, usually if you get the fever, nausea and bodyaches that almost incapacitate you that is the flu. Stuffy nose, coughs and headaches are usually the cold. If it takes you out of commission it is the flu adn for me to invest $10 a year for a flu shot is worth it considering you spend probably triple that on medication trying to fight it off. Everyone's body is a little different but from my experience and most I know who have had the shot yearly the results have been positive

That's good news. It would not be the same without you around here.

I had a flu shot today. I wasn't planning on getting one, but it was free, so I decided to have it. Hopefully, I won't have any nasty after effects from the shot and will remain flu-free throughout the winter flu season...

I get sick after getting a flu shot. There are so many types of the flu so how do we know which flu's we are supposed to be protected from? The last flu shot that I got was the Swine Flu shot way way back in the 70's.

It's primarily from the needle being injected into your tissue. I give myself injections once a week into either my thigh or the area around my bellybutton, so I'm used to that feeling. You should feel fine tomorrow.

Feels like someone has been punching you in the shoulder in the same spot?

That is the only side effect aside from not feeling well the very first time, (common but does not usually happen in subsequent years) I get every single year. Usually takes about 2 days for the bruise and weak arm feeling to go away but it gets better quite quickly. Tomorrow is gonna be a B*** though, gotta get mine next week... I feel for ya.

Thanks, I get pain every few years and I've been taking flu shots for 23 years.

I got mine earlier today! I have been doing this for the last few years in the fall, so while I stopped into my Kroger grocery store to run an errand, I decided to check up on flu shots at the pharmacy and, fortune of fortunes, I could get one today, so I did!

I've never had a flu shot to my knowledge. And I haven't had the flu since I started eating healthy 13 years ago: 15 servings of raw veges and fruits a day, whole grains, beans, and no milk.

I just started with Echinacia and Goldenseal like every October.
Raw garlic is the best anti-viral thing you can consume. And it can help with almost anything.

So, my immune system is strong, and takes care of everything.

I knew I wasn't alone! Have you looked into Astragalus & Andrographis? Both are also very good for the immune system.
