Ladies: How bad is it for you during your "time of the month"? (sorry guys) - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Also, do you notice if you have it start around the same time as other females who you are close with?

My poor daughter is 17 and suffers from severe pain. It is so intense. She would miss so much school because of it. For this reason and one other, I ended up having to take her out of school and put her in independent studies. I know when I was a teen it seemed bad, but looking back, it was nothing like it is now for me. It is HELL! I get symptoms at least a week before. THEN! I have it and it seems to last for a good 8 days. Severe cramping, headaches, feeling BLAH and depression. I would give anything not to deal with this crap again. What I hate is when this sharp intense cramping takes over and it feels like someone is stabbing me!!!!

I always know when I will start, first, because of the pain I endure a week before it starts. Then, when one of my daughter's begins, that tells me I will soon start. It never fails, just like clockwork, one starts, then the other daughter starts and then me. ONE, TWO, THREE!!!! My poor boyfriend and our son.

It's horrible. I'm accually going to the doctor tommorow to see about being put on a light birth control to stop the pain.

My daughter was given a prescription for that. However, she didn't notice a difference. She is also diabetic, so she didn't like the side effects it was giving her. I hope for you it really helps. My niece received a prescription for that reason as well.

Thank you, mum. I just need something to take the edge off. I throw up at least once during that time from the pain. It's horrible.

That is horrible. I hope this will help you, really I do. Life is hard enough for us ladies without dealing with this "interruption"...

That actually started happening to me recently too.

It's horrible for me. Plus I get cysts on my ovaries like...every month. They say it's normal, but it's definitely not a fun experience at all. Basically I feel like dying. I've thrown up a few times from the pain too, like I said above. I get horrible mood swings where everything irritates me and upsets me and I get this awful anxiety thing for no reason. And theres the feeling of a knife in my back...and front. And this is all before it starts.

Being a girl sucks.

I get it pretty bad on the first day, but it gradually eases off as the days go by. There have been a few occasions where I've had to take off work because my pain was so bad (I was practically doubled over). Mostly, though, I have to say I am pretty lucky with it.

I know what you mean abt the ovaries (cysts)...In my life I have had two that had ruptured. MY GOD!!!! THE PAIN!!!!! I was throwing up and doubled over in pain and felt like I was dying.

Yep. My doctor has checked me for that. His reasoning for my pain (and I don't doubt it) is when I had spinal surgery, the surgery was done anteriorally. Through the front, almost like a c-section. The surgeon had to get bone from my hip, the reason for him doing it this way. He then fused my spine using my hip bone. Ever since my surgery, my periods have never been the same. NEVER!

The surgeon having to move all my insides and uterus outta the way to get to my spine. OUCH!!!

They changed a lot from the time I first got it (age 13) until this year.

The first 1 1/2 or so years that I had it, the cramps were mind-numbingly awful. I would be at school when the cramps hit, and I would have to put my head down on my desk and whimper silently because it was so bad, and I came close to blacking out on a couple of occasions too. I used to have to go home in the middle of the day when the cramps hit, because it was REALLY hard to concentrate on schoolwork with the pain. The flow sucked, too.

And I knew it was coming when I would get cramps and break out in zits.

About two years after I first started, they straightened themselves out, my cramps weren't as bad (i.e., it stopped making me almost black out), but I still had a heavy flow. Still got cramps and broke out in zits before it started.

Sometime after I graduated from high school and moved back home, they changed again... This time, the flow was REALLY light, but the cramps came back with a vengeance. My god... AWFUL. And I also started something new, cramping like a bitch when it was time for me to ovulate. Either way, I cramped for up to two weeks out of every month, which sucked MAJOR ass. The cramps when I ovulated were awful, too. Oftentimes, I was bleeding for only two to three days (mine were never even more than four days, even when I first started), and the flow was just really light... so it doesn't make sense to me at all.

I've been on HBC for a while now, and I still break out in zits around the time my period was supposed to arrive, and I still experience cramping once in a while, but it's NOTHING like it used to be. So, I'm thankful. I love not having to deal with bleeding every month now.

And god... I would turn into such a bitch too. Doesn't happen now, though.

I've been on the Pill for years. Obviously I'm on it for the most obvious reasons, but it also lessons the length of my period (4 days) and I have absolutely NO cramps whatsoever. Before being on the Pill, I'd be in the ER with them. It was horrible.

I don't get much trouble from mine other than the fact that I'm anemic so I lose more blood than a person who took a gun to the head. But generally I don't really bloat or get too bad cramps. I used to get horrible cramps but I really don't feel much pain anymore...it does suck that the ones that do come come days before I actually get it, though.

I suffer from chronic menstrual cramps, My cramps are so bad that they go from my lower abdomen to my lower back and down my legs. I also have a heavy blood flow, from the time I start till the time I stop. When I was in the 9th grade I was put on birth control pills to deal with the pain, but that didn't help at all. So after that, I was prescribed naproxen for a while. Then I stopped taken that and now I just take 3 Aleve every couple hrs. It dulls the pain to where I can stand it.

So I feel your daughters pain.

One BC that she can take is the seasonle you have like 4 periods a yr. And theres another one that my doc told me about, I can't think of the name right now.

Man, I'm lucky. Pre-Anxiety/Depression: No cramping whatsoever, no PMS, lasted about 5-6 days. Most annoying thing was just the bleeding, which wasn't abnormal or anything...just gross. Post Anxiety/Depression: For some reason, once my brain went

, my period changed. Now it's shorter, and effects my digestive system more. Sometimes (not every period), I get to feeling, well, poopy. lol But I'm not, it just feels that way. More a dull ache than a pain.

Never have been perfectly regular though.
