Post Question

Ok here's the question I wanted to ask last month: about 1994-95 I was involved in a relationship with a former actress, her name was Marii Mak. She once told me she had appeared (at least once, maybe more) on GIMME A BREAK. This would afaik have been toward the end of the series, she remembered Nell Carter but had no idea who Dolph Sweet was or even that he had been on the show (until I explained to her who DS had been). The role would have been a (Southern?) Chinese-American news reporter similar to Connie Chung (yes, Marii was Chinese) possibly encountered during one of Nell's visits "back home"...so anyone remember this? How long a role (i.e. screen time) was it? I see it's not listed in either the ep. guide or the IMDb...

Btw if anyone's interested in helping a correction, Marii wasn't dead in 1978 as the IMDb lists her...she could hardly have appeared in all those 1980's films if she had been dead! But I don't have a regular site currently and so can't log in with IMDb just now to tell them of this mistake...Post-1995, I can't say anything about her status but she was definitely alive till then!

I haven't (as yet) gotten a reply on my question but at least someone seems to have e-mailed IMDb, they removed that mistaken obituary. *Shrug* I do remember that Marii made a big deal out of appearing on GAB (alas, I more or less stopped watching the show after Dolph Sweet's death, it seemed to lose focus...and never managed to catch many post-DS eps. on the reruns).

Was it the episode "Alabamy Bound Pt II" in which Nell's sister marries Howard, a weatherman, and he introduces her to "Mary-Lou", this fellow News girl. All she says in a southern accent is "Hello, Nell. I do Declare! This wedding is marvelous. How we all doing?" Or something. And Nell responds "We all doing just fine." And then it was on the terms of Mama Maybelle coming to live in Glenlawn with her and the woman says "I would'nt let my mama live with me for all the Tae in China...not for all the tae in China."

So I don't know. Dolf wasn't on that episode, and it was at the beginning of season 4.

But Marri Mak sounds kinda fake (Like Miss Mary Mak, all dressed in Black) LOL! Anyways...if she is real, it is that actress, I am like 90% sure.

Yup, I just checked the episode and she is listed as a guest star. Marii Mak. It was in "Alabamy Bound Pt II" after the wedding scene of Loretta and Howard. Howard introduced Nell to her "Oh Mary Lou!" and she walked over to him and chatted for 20 seconds or so. Nell got pissed and you saw it in her eyes with the "All the tea in China" speech. She was Chinese and had a Southern accent.
