Default The episode-"The First Store" is the WORST of the series

This is when they do a flashback to when George was trying to get a loan for the store in 1968 and Martin Luther King was shot. What made the episode strange is they never come back from the Flashback, the episode just ends with Martin Luther King preaching. Unless this is only on the TV LAND version. Strong Possibility

Nope, that's how it ended. The point was being made by Martin Luther King rather than the characters. His voice over the credit.

I remember it during it's first run. I remember for the fact that my brother watched it with me and he said, "That's it?" referring to how it ended. He wanted the flashback to end and have them go back to the present, like you. Then, seeing it in syndication so much, I never forgot. I would see that ending and I always think of what my brother said. He used a cuss word, but you get my drift.

I actually liked this episode. I wished George would have thrown that racist banker out on his ass from the get go, because he did nothing but insult George and black people the minute he set foot in their apartment.

Yeah, because obviously he was younger in 1968.

It was a hairpiece. He was receding too much for that to be combed over in front.

I think you knew that.

I actually consider this one of the best episodes from the 80s. The acting was better than usual. To me there was no need to go back to 1980. The guy that played Mr. Drew from the bank was very good in that part. The other flashback episode Change of A Dollar in season 9 was terrible- corny idea, no reference at all to Lionel, it had a stale feeling to it.
