The was an episode where Alex Trebek played Pat's job...Alex's wife was Vanna and Pat and Vanna were the contestents. Anyone remember this and could give me more details? I thought it was April 1, 1997 if I remember correctly.

Also, was that about the same time they switched the borad to the pressing letters ?

Yes. It was indeed on April 1, 1997. Though it was Pat Sajak's wife Lesly that operated the puzzle board while Pat and Vanna played.
