Did the Bernice character played by Alice Ghostley stay on the show for the entire run or was she on just for a few seasons?

No, Bernice was around the entire time. She's not in every ep, but I don't think there's a season she's not in at all. In fact, the very last scene of the show was of her singing "Black man, black man...." to Anthony, LOL.
