Question Fatal Attraction: Was she pregnant?

I watched Fatal Attraction last night. TV Land's Friday night movie, lol. I saw it in the theater back in 1987. I always had my suspicions that Glenn Close's character, Alex, was faking that she was pregnant. However, after watching it again, I saw no evidence of that.

I went to the imdb movie board on Fatal Attraction, and there are quite a few threads that debate whether Alex was pregnant or not. Most posters summized that she wasn't pregnant.

I think that if they wanted the audience to doubt her pregnancy, they would have placed clues in the movie, and I saw none.

I didn't know that there was such a debate among die hard fans of the movie.

Good question. I always wondered that myself. I mean, do you think he or she would do such crazy ass things to each other knowing she may be pregnant? Do you think she would put herself in harm's way if she was carrying his child, knowing she miscarried (supposedly) before?

And what is up with that crazy ending? The police would have taken the him and his wife to the police station for questioning, not just decide right then and there that the female character was a stalker and so forth. I laugh at that ending because it is so unreal. Also, if she was pregnant, the coroner would have the power to find that out and then Michael Douglas' character would be questioned even more because he may be the father and they would think that she was killed to "get rid of the problem".

I just remembered, in that one scene Michael's character tells his friend that he called her doctor and the doctor said, "Congratulations." So, I guess she was indeed pregnant.

That's right. Also, remember Dan broke into Alex's apartment and found the EPT in her medicine cabinet. I think she was pregnant. The movie offered no clues to make me think otherwise.

On the imdb board, they have theories that the card Alex gave Dan wasn't really her doctor's, but a friend who lied for her. Most people on there think that she wasn't pregnant.

I think her pregnancy wasn't presented as a mystery, and it was as it appeared...she was pregnant. It wasn't a 'read between the lines' kind of movie.

Yeah, I remember the EPT pregnancy test in her bathroom. I would think when she gave him the card though, he would check in the phonebook or some other source that the physician was in fact for real. Still, he had the notion that the kid wasn't his; he was searching for proof that she was sleeping around.

Initially, he doubted it was his child. He asked her when she told him she was pregnant..."How do I know it's mine?"...to which she replied..."Because I don't sleep around."

After he found the EPT and called the doctor, he believed that she was pregnant. That's what he told his friend.

I believe she was pregnant. Keep in mind, she was a loony bird. She probably told him she was safe and protected, but got herself pregnant on purpose.

BUMP

I watched this movie the other night on cable and it dawned on me, she was telling Michael Douglas' character that she had a bad miscarriage and didn't know if she could be pregnant...she was now pregnant and wanted to keep this child. Ok, if she was wanting to "be careful" with this pregnancy, WHY DID SHE GO ON THAT ROLLERCOASTER?

I think at that point in the movie, Alex was completely unraveling and there was no logic to her actions. She was just a boiling bunny wackjob!

Agreed! She was attempting to lure his daughter with fun things and try to weasle herself into his family and take over the wife/mother role. She became delusional.

It's so funny, this is the 20th anniversary of the release of FA. Wouldn't it be funny if they did a sequel to it now?? Maybe all the questions would be answered...don't know if Glenn Close & Michael Douglas would go for it, though...

I never thought she was -she said all sorts of stuff that wasn't true, I just figured she was lying. And she found the lie worked so well that she kept it up. I hadn't thought that she might really have been... hmm, guess I'll have to watch it again

I mean, Michael's character finds out from the doctor directly that she is pregnant. It just makes things seem crazy to see her behave the way she does for someone who wants to keep this pregnancy "safe".

She also could have bribed the doctor or switched test results.

My feeling is that she may have just had a miscarriage and we, the viewers, were not told this. I think the writers goofed here. They could have shown us how she had a miscarriage and how this really pushed her to her to the edge. This would have made more sense.
