HOLLYWOOD - TV legend Farrah Fawcett is battling cancer, according to press reports.
Doctors discovered a malignant tumor in her lower intestine and she has been undergoing intensive radiation to shrink it.

According to The National Enquirer, after Fawcett has surgery to remove the deadly cancer, the 59-year-old former Charlie's Angels star will have to endure chemotherapy and more grueling radiation treatments.

The devastating news came after the star's appearance on Aug. 27 at the Emmy Awards, where she was reunited with former costars Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson during a tribute to TV producing legend Aaron Spelling.

A family friend tells the magazine that her illness has brought her back together with longtime love Ryan O'Neal, who's survived his own battle with leukemia.

The source says, "After Farrah got the diagnosis--cancer of the anus and lower intestine--she was devastated. Everyone in the family cried for days.

"Then she snapped out of it and told Ryan, 'I'm going to beat this!'"

Fawcett Remains Positive Despite Cancer

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Farrah Fawcett, recently found to have cancer, said Friday she is maintaining a positive attitude and expects to recover completely.

"I am determined to bite the bullet and fight the fight while going through the next six weeks of cutting edge, state-of-the-art treatment," the 59-year-old actress said in a statement. "I should be able to return to my life as it was before."

Her publicist, Mike Pingel, didn't reveal what kind of cancer Fawcett has but said it was recently diagnosed and involves a fast-growing tumor.

The actress, who appeared with her former "Charlie's Angels" co-stars at an Emmy tribute in August to the late TV producer Aaron Spelling, said she has been overwhelmed by the "outpouring of concern, love, prayers and compassion" she has received from people around the world. "I deeply believe in one's own positive will to overcome even the most daunting challenges," she said.

Smith, who has successfully battled breast cancer, is regularly in touch with Fawcett, who confirmed she had the disease last week. Smith says, "She's great, and she's going to be fine. In fact, she made me laugh. She is handling this like she handles everything else in her life, with strength and courage and a positive attitude. She said, 'I'm coming to your house every night.' Because I eat very healthy. She's right down the street, so she'll come, and we'll just stay healthy together."
