Default Season 8 thoughts

I had a few questions/thoughts on Season 8 that I wanted to ask/share:

The episode before the finale (Cupid Works Overtime) says at the end "To Be Continued...Next Week". That episode aired on 5/15/84 and the one hour finale was actually the season 9 opener for Three's a Crowd. Would the episode that we have on DVD actually be from the summer repeat of Cupid Works Overtime? I'm not complaining and I know its complete but it was just an observation.

One other thing I noticed about the Season 8 episodes was Janets nose. Did Joyce DeWitt have some kind of plastic surgery or something? I've been wondering since her face just doesn't look or photograph the same as in other seasons IMO.

Default Season 8

When I first saw Season 8 in its original ABC run 23 years ago,the first thing I noticed was that Joyce's nose did look different,so I think that she had a nose job.
IMO,her hair looked a lot more thicker than before and I think that she may have been wearing a wig or extensions as well.
Anyone else notice this as well?
During the summer of 1984,ABC reran the episodes(when I got my first VCR)and a week before the one hour finale, they did show "Cupid Works Overtime" with the short version of the opening and the "To Be Continued Next Week" graphic.
The one hour finale also had the short opening.
I remember that ABC alternated between the long and short openings during the original run and the summer 1984 reruns.

Default Season 8 thoughts...

...thanks for the feedback. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought she looked different and I don't think the book mentions any surgery. She was/is still such an attractive and seemingly wonderful person. I was always a Janet person (ya know...kinda like Mary Ann vs. Ginger).

Interesting note about the shorter opening. They must've shot a new insert with Don Knotts because that doesn't look cribbed from the longer version. I haven't watched the entire season yet so I haven't seen how the beginnings are altered.

They did the same thing with MASH toward the end of the 10th season and into the 11th. They had a shorter version of the the opening credits and dubbed over the closing theme music over them. It was also strange that in Season 1, there were a few episodes that had a 'jazzy' version of the theme.

Noticing differences like that is something I always find interesting. Like how the opening and closing sequences of shows change over the years (note the synthetic drums in many shows appear as the 80's creeps on and the more funky sounding openings change.. note later how rock is pushed more in action shows openings and stuff). I've watched some of Season 8 recently on tv (The DVD set I just ordered today from BestBuy.com along with Season 7 for free )... and yeah her nose looks different. It may not be plastic surgury she intended but she could have actually had a broken nose or something and either had it fixed. Whatever the case it would be interesting to hear the story behind that.

The package says and a special reunion. Did I miss something? I have looked for that reunion. Where is it on the DVD?

I heard she had a nose job but never knew if it was true. Thats one of the scary things about hollywood, Joyce Dewitt is so down to earth, and even she felt she needed to surgically improve her appearance.

The Finale was not the start of season 9, it was the episode after that one which aired on 9/25/84

I might still have my tape of that episode, but since I moved last year it would take me a while to find it in my vast tape collection of various TV shows. Some are still in boxes. I definitely still have the one hour finale and can find it easily, since back in 1984 I made sure to label it "Three's Company final episode".
It is one of my oldest surviving tapes.
Although I use a DirecTV DVR for recording shows,
I still buy videotapes for my VCR to record anything I want to keep off the DVR before I erase it.
