Prejudice towards Muslims is sooo wrong. The people who hijjacked the planes were Muslims, but you have to understand that they are extremists. After an abortion clinic is blown up, do we prejudice against Christians? Of course not! Yeah and same goes for people of Middle Eastern descent:
One of my parents' close friends is from Iran, but his family moved to the US when he was 8 or 9. He hasn't been back for 30 years, but yes he still has a little accent. He lives really close to NY, and a few days ago he had to drive and he said he was stopped so many times.

Also, a newpaper or something was telling how all Middle Eastern countries may be like blocked so no one can get to the US from there or back to the Middle East from the US. Well, how do you suppose my friend's exchange student will get back home?! She's from Turkey and she's Islamic... guess she won't be getting home.. and they had another exchange student from Turkey who booked a flight to come up here for Christmas this year, but...??? (LOL my friend has been having exchange students since her brother was a freshman, I think there's been 6 or 7.) Well I don't know how true the second part of this post is...but I thought I'd give you my thoughts.

I think it is sad too. People must realize that you can't judge somebody by the color of their skin.

They get this idea that all Muslims are bad, even though only a few are responsible for the attack on America.

We had just begun to bring our guards down and really get to let others see our true colors. Then something like this happens and we get out our masks again and wear them. Each face has an identical expression, an expression that holds nothing even similar to our real personality. Maybe one of these days, we will find peace enough to remove those masks and live in true peace.

I'm sorry if I offended anybody with my message and I'm sorry that it is on the long side.

Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?

Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.

Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.

Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.

I'm not anti- anything. Just look at the facts. Most terroists are middle eastern decent. And I never said I was prejudice against any middle easterner, especially living in this county, they have as much right to be here as us. All I said was most terrorists are middle eastern.

The one thing that this country never has had is tolerance. It is a cruel fact that Americans are for the most part ignorant. I've never embraced stereotypes and have always condemed racism, but I must admit, I've caught myself making judgements in the past couple of weeks based on ethnicity. It isn't OK - the Americans who spray paint mosques and loot Arab owned stores are no better than the KKK burning crosses in the yards of African Americans. But at the same time, I'm frightened. These people who did it walked amongst us for years, and nobody knew what they are up to. So I've been on hightened alert lately. If I see a man with a beard and a turban, I admit, I've been judging him a little differently, only because I'm afraid to trust him.

Jeeeeeze, I was only saying what was true. ANY person in this world is capable of doing this, no matter black or white, Hispanic or Asian, Russian or whatever. Now if someone says the word "Terrorist" to me I automatically think "Middle East". The Middle East certainly are not the only Terroist people in the world. They may have been the only people to do something about their..um, hatred, but they are not the only ones. Just had to put my 2 cents in

Smartly put, Meg. I totally agree that we cannot judge the many from the acts of a few.

Cool

For anyone who thinks that all terrorists are foreigners, most likely Muslim, I have 2 words for you: Timothy McVeigh.

People who are Middle-Eastern aren't the only ones being treated differently these days. People from South Asia, particularly India, are also being blamed. I don't know if you all heard this, but several Sikhs were murdered after the September 11 attack. One Sikh in Texas was murdered at his gas station...the murderer said that he thought he was a terrorist. (Sikhs wear turbans) In some of my classes, people are acting really immature, and asking everyone what their nationality is...Some people are blaming Muslims, and saying "Go back to your country"...This is just very wrong. People are not educated enough. They think that if someone wears a turban, they are friends of Osama Bin Laden. They think that if you are Muslim, you were not affected by the attack. It was said somewhere that many American, British, and Indian people were the victims in the World Trade Center. Well, there were also Muslims who were affected by the attack. People ask, "What can we do to help?" The answers that they are hearing are, "Donate money and donate blood." Donating money and donating blood are EXCELLENT ideas, and I strongly urge everyone to do so, but there's something else that EVERYONE can do. Be kind to others, don't judge by one's skin color. We are ALL Americans, because we live in America. (By the way, if your not old enough to donate blood, money still helps.)
I'm really sorry that I rambled on and on, but this is an issue that deserves attention. I don't know how many of you actually read this, but I hope that you will think twice before judging others. Thanks.

Even though theshark's remark was a bit..harsh, I can't help with agreeing slightly. But please, let me explain myself...
Okay, I will admit, I have a biased opinion. I'm a middle-class white girl in a liberal area.(Otherwise known as the Bay Area). We all have that sort of Berkeley attitude. Although, I have a surprising amount of friends who are Republicans. Go figure.
Sorry for the tangent...
Recently, I did a cause and effect essay on Racial Profiling at airports after the attacks. I had to go over if it was nessasary, etc. And with the more information I gathered, I started to understand why Airports are taking extra percautions. I mean, just look at it this way...The Irish(I.R.A. more specifically) have repeatingly "terrorized" England over the scuffles up in Northern Ireland. So of course, the British take percautions with the Irish when they visit England. Is anyone surprised about that? No. And I think the Irish expect that sort of scrutiny to an extent. But generally, the countries are on good terms.( Of course!)
I tend to think this situation the same way.
OF COURSE, for the time being, people coming from the Middle East will be "checked" out by security. It's not like we're throwing them in camps, like we did the Japanese Americans during WWII.
I must stress to you all that I have nothing against Arab-Americans. Nothing at all. I have many friends who are of that descent. And they even agree with me as well.
I do, however, have MUCH against extremists who think their religion is better than other's. I DO have something against the Taliban. I do have something against Bin Laden. Is that wrong?
