After purchasing the season 4 last week-end i took the time to watch a trip to the moon with commentary of bruce willis and maddie hayes got married commented by cybill shepherd.
I found interesting to hear that bruce and cybill both felt they were not the same characters as the previous season and that a lot of the episodes were untrue to what the show was the years before (thanks to the writers.euh!...........) but i really like the fact that both of them did their best even considering the circumstances. |

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the Allyce&Curtis commentary! They were so funny, and really sweet!!
They also shared some behind-the-scenes stuff from their point of view, about their experiences. I really recommend listening to that one.

Yes, it was SOOO nice to hear Allyce and Curtis chatting away and being so positive and happy. It is a really good episode for them to comment on too.
Both Bruce and Cybill's commentaries on Season 4 really seem to reflect the difficulties and problems they had. Having recently watched A Trip to the Moon for the first time since it was aired, I've got to agree with Bruce and Glenn - there is something somehow wrong with the episode, it's got some interesting bits in it, but it doesn't hang together well, and Maddie and David are just acting out of character all the time... It's more painful to watch this than the later Season 4 and early Season 5, which at least have humour and spark in them... Mul |

Hearing Curtis and Allyce was terrific. They are so funny from the beginning when they joke about he is bruce willis she is cybill shepherd
I seem their way to comment is the symbol of the show. Like the famous chemistry between B&C that for me is still alive. IMO If you can, say more about bruce an cybill commentaries, I don't understand everything! Thanks

I agree. I found A Trip To The Moon painful to watch, particularly the dragged-out Bruce scene outside of Maddie's front door. They both seemed out of character and not in the moment. I usually skip from the fabulous To Heiress Human to A Womb With A View. There are a few scenes in season 4 that I can watch: Viola telling David that he "knocked uo the boss". Makes me laugh every time. Daddy Hayes and David on the plane, Bruce with tears in his eyes. I am in the minority for the liking of the Walter/Maddie/David/Terri episodes. I don't like to watch any of them. I even found the bicycle throwing/Body Heat scene difficult to watch cuz Cy's boobs were so big (following the twins' birth) that I felt she had to be in pain during that scene. There was chemistry in A Womb With A View - in the dance scene, and also in Maddie's office when she looks at David when they talk about the bambino, or was that bambina? I felt hope during the first half of that episode that things were going to head in the right direction again.BUT of course, I was soooooooooo wrong. They became PALS instead of lovers, friends instead of "true partners" - they became boring co-workers, and partners in business instead of life. WHO THOUGHT THAT THE AUDIENCE WATCHED MOONLIGHTING FOR DAVID AND MADDIE'S FRIENDSHIP? WHICH DIMWIT EXECUTIVE THOUGHT THAT WE WATCHED MOONLIGHTING FOR THE CASES? WE WATCHED MOONLIGHTING FOR THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DAVID AND MADDIE! PERIOD! Every now and then during season 5, we would see a little spark, but we didn't want a little spark -- we wanted FLAMES!

kismet, You just kill me with what you wrote. So true! No one wanted to see PALS, they wanted ROMANCE! Very sad and depressed now LOL How a show this old can still get to me and i guess lots of others to this way is too is unbelieveable.

I`ve just gone back and watched/listened to the commentary for A Trip... and in particular what Glenn and Bruce were saying during that wonderful sweet speech that David gives in the outer office. As David is saying that he has fallen in love with Maddie ,Bruce says something along the lines like " well this stopped me from making the same mistake in a couple of films!" and this makes Glenn crack up with laughter and Bruce then says " why did you tell america that i was inlove with Maddie Hayes".
What was the `in` joke between them , what did Bruce mean by `making the same mistake ` This is really intrigueing me. |

I finally sat down and watched three episodes with commentaries. I am going to watch them/listen to them again because I didn't pay close attention to the commentaries as I would like because I was too surprised that I loved the episodes I did watch -- it actually floored me.
Here are some quick thoughts - they might change as I re-watch/re-listen: Maddie Hayes Got Married: Thank you, Roger Director - finally someone gives Cybill some quality raves. Thank you, Roger, for being a class act. Thank you, Cybill, for being so open on your thoughts. I was surprised that Cybill seemed to have almost total lack of memory about any of it. Nursing does cause you to lose brain cells! Lack of sleep will do it to you every time. I LOVED THIS EPISODE! I actually laughed out loud throughout most of the episode. Great writing. This show was definitely on par with the first 3 seasons. I agree with Cybill that she seemed almost morose in some of her performance. Cybill was very emotional at the end, both in the show and during the commentary - it actually made me want them to work together again soon. A Trip To The Moon: When Bruce and Glenn get together, I usually do not like the results, and this was no exception. This commentary was a major downer for me for most of it. Glenn has nothing nice to say about Cybill, with a few jabs thrown every now and then. It was interesting to me that he gave kudos to Allyce during The Honeymooners scenes (Cybill was totally ignored) - Allyce had a couple of short lines, nothing major. Nothing was said of Cybill's performance and yet she hit "Alice" right on. Glenn acts sometimes like a spoiled child IMO, and he brings Bruce along with him. The best actor during The Honeymooners sequence was Charles Rockett. He WAS Ed Norton. Validation: Bruce saying that David Addison fell in love with Maddie Hayes the first time they met. Let's see - who has said that before many times? ME! ME! ME! Validation: Glenn saying that the scene with David outside of Maddie's door goes on way too long. Kismet agrees! ![]() Bruce's love (I mean LOVE) of I See London... and Shirts 'n Skins from season 5. He REALLY loves I See London...! Who would have thought those two would be his favorites!!! Come Back Little Shiksa: It was interesting to hear things from the writers/director points of view. The writers are a talented pair, and I enjoyed the insights. I enjoyed the claymation stuff much more now that I have heard the commentaries. I loved hearing that they all felt that the chemistry was still so apparent during the phone calls. Bruce and Cybill just gel, no matter what. No Major Cybill bashing during this one, so it was fun to watch/listen. I will have more to say but a must-see soccer game is an hour away.

I'm with you, Kismet!
If and when we get Season 5 out, Bruce might be anxious to do "Shirts and Skins" or "I See England..." since he mentions them all the time!! What I REALLY hope is that he doesn't do "Womb with a View" with Glenn, since that's the last one he wrote. Their commentary reminded me too much of the original one they did (without Cybill) for the pilot a few years ago. When they get together there are too many private jokes and snickers for me sometimes.

It really bugged me that Cybill's performance was completely ignored during the commentary. She was great. I also love her reaction when David declares his love for her. It was so sweet. And I'll second that, "Thank you, Roger Director." oh, and cybr, too many snickers and private jokes indeed. like the one when they were viewing the laundromat scene. Bruce says something like, "I'll tell you about it later." ugh |
