Default CBS...Takin' A Hit

Better bring the KING back, quick!! Caution comes at a high price

“The Class”
Like most CBS’s sitcoms, “The Class,” which debuted on Monday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m., is genial and inoffensive. It also vies for being the least original of the four new CBS shows. Produced by “Friends” co-creator David Crane, “The Class” is more in the young-skewing vein of “How I Met Your Mother” than the more family-focused “The King of Queens” or “Two and a Half Men.”

Its central group of twentysomethings who went to elementary school together are all fairly familiar sitcom types, and Crane and his writers don’t do much to persuade audiences that the series is more than a tweak or two beyond a copycat of “Friends.”

Its ratings reflect that. In week two, it tumbled from a 3.6 rating to a 2.9, a dip of 19 percent and fourth in its timeslot.

What difference would that make to CBS ratings. I am a fan of the
show, but it was never a top 20 rated show last season or for sometime, hence CBS decision to request 13 episodes and use it as a mid-season
replacement show.

KoQ was usually second, sometimes third in its timeslot.
The Class is getting killed!
KoQ only had a 13 ep. order because of KJ's movie shoot.

I believe that the KOQ last season got about 6-7 million viewers in the 8 PM CBS timeslot, which is better than what "The Class" is doing. The CBS Monday lineup is pretty much blah to me right now, no really good comedies IMO since ELR ended and since they canceled Yes Dear and Still Standing. I usually watch Deal or No Deal, followed by WWE Raw on Monday nights after my double dose of KOQ on WWOR. I don't really plan on watching CBS right now, unless there is a good football game on, or some show of value.

This decision came mostly due to Kevin's filming schedule. They wouldn't have been able to film enough episodes for an entire season.

TV Q&A: 09/29/06

Q: Is "King of Queens" going to be on this season? I really loved this show, but haven't seen any promos for the new season.

-- Debbie, Pittsburgh

As we reported in the fall preview issue of TV Week (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06260/722156-237.stm), "King of Queens" will be back at midseason. Although given the disappointing ratings for "The Class" this week, maybe it will be sooner.

Yes, but it still did poorly in the first hour with The Class. So hopefully they WILL start showing KOQ before January, and hopefully they WILL order some more episodes.

tvtracker

Unfortunately, week three of CBS sitcom The Class remained a weak link, with a 6.0/ 9 in the overnights (#2), 8.00 million viewers (#3) and a 2.8/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3). Former occupant The King of Queens averaged a considerably more potent 7.6/12 in the overnights, 10.31 million viewers and a 3.5/10 among adults 18-49 on the year-ago evening.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that. It's a convenient thing to say since Kev did want to do more motion pictures. But face it, I'm sure the Yes, Dear and Still Standing fans were saying the same things last year. I believe they were pulling down about 6-7 million folks a week too. That's better than The Class is getting, but I bet you could run re-runs of Survivor and do about as well and not have to pay millions to the cast and crew for their work. That's why shows that are drawing like that either get moved to improve ratings or get canned. But hey, I like KOQ as much as anyone and we are talking about year nine here and most shows never come close to getting that far. It's only natural after that amount of time that viewers just look for something else.

It happens! But we do have to brace for the fact that KOQ's at the end of the line now. 1998-2007......not too bad!

Uh, yeah, I will. Thanks for that wonderful tip. Being that if they had the time to film a full season, there would be no reason why they wouldn't.

Why do you think an actor on a mid-level ratings getter as KOQ has been
would dictate to the network how many episodes would be shot in this season. This was a CBS programming decision period . Look we are all fans of this show, but the truth is time has run out on this fine show. Unless they pull CSI numbers when they come back, this will be final season.
