How come my computer can't access certain sites?

A couple of sites that I regularly go to like Wikipedia and Photobucket won't load for me. It'll just say "done" at the bottom of the screen and everytime I reload, nothing happens and the blank screen still remains. This has been going on for about a little more than a week now and it makes me sad that I can't go to these sites anymore. Can anyone help?

What browser are you using? If Internet Explorer, you can try it in Firefox - http://www.mozilla.com/products/firefox or the new Opera 9 - http://www.opera.com/, both of which are clearly superior to Internet Explorer 6. This can help rule out certian problems.

wouldn't hurt to try a different browser to see if the problem is the browser, or if it is something else - there are a number of things that could cause this

try clearing out your temp files (use CCleaner - run it twice with your browser CLOSED)

clear your DNS cache: open a command window, click on "Run" on the Start Menu, type in cmd and enter, then on the "DOS" screen type in ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter (again make sure your browser is closed)

it could be a java error, make sure your Java is up-to-date, you may want to uninstall it, and then download the newest version

it could be a Hosts file problem, download and install Mike's Hosts File, it should overwrite any errors in there

it could ALSO be some sort of spyware or a Hijacker - even if it has been removed, there may be enough pieces of it left or corrupted files to cause a problem, post a HijackThis log and I can take a look at it.

and what browser is that? how do you connect to the internet - you aren't still using WebTV are you?

I'm using MSNTV 2, The funny thing is I never went to TV land when i had the option but as soon as that option was taken away from me i'm like-"WTF??-lol
