Default I've always wondered...

I've always wondered why a house with four people would only have three chairs at the kitchen table, their main meeting place. The one without a chair had to stand behind or act busy getting food. Sophia and Rose alternately shared the chair on the left.

I know on TV they always sit people around the sides and back of the table for filming purposes, but it is still odd there wasn't a fourth chair in the set.

In the earliest episodes there was a fourth chair there, though they never used it. Eventually it just phased away and they used either that stool or the chair from the desk over by the table. I've always thought that was weird too.

Cool

It was also so they could see all 4 of the girls. If you were to put a fourth chair it would be blocking one of the girls.

The backs of the chairs were not high enough to block anyone.

The girl sitting in "front" would block Dorothy (who was in the middle 96% of the time).

Also, it would have been an awkward camera angle to get, and the studio audience wouldn't be able to see the actress's face.

Nonetheless, they could have done it, and on occasion, did do it. I know of at least 2 episodes where they are at a restaurant sitting in that manner, and it worked just fine. However, with all the other continuity errors that this show had over the years, the chair situation isn't a major one, and it doesn't take away from the show at all.

Madame X asked about ther chair. She already stated that she knew why no one sat there- she asked why there wasn't a fourth chair to even give the illusion that someone sat there on occasion. The bowl on the table was higher than the back of the chair, so it shouldn't have been a problem.

I think the table would have been pushed right up to the 4th wall in the kitchen, the fourth wall being the viewers. i thought you sometimes saw the chair to the left of the kitchen. Also, they rarely all ate together. One of them was always off somewhere etc.
