Default 'BNS' Opening- Book Revelations

The only three that really were of any interest to me were

1. In spite of filming in the Windy City, they had to use a wind machine to make Bob's hat blow off during that sequence.

2. His L-trainstop was 55 blocks from the Lake Shore apartments the Hartleys were supposed to be living in.

3. They only had a single day to film the sequence of Bob walking across the Chicago River Bridge with the other commuters but BN's daughter had to go the hospital that very day so BN couldn't be there. So,after all these years BN has revealed that, at the last minute, they hired an actor with a resemblance to BN to wear that suit and hat and walk across the bridge after the man had studied BN's walk- and BN claims that to this day he has no idea who the actor was (much less what became of him).

Yeah, he mentioned all of those facts at one point or another on the second season commentaries. How's the book in general, now that we're on the subject?

For the record, if anyone is interested in a trade I have him talking about his new book on many different shows. I got him on Your World with Neil Cavuto, The View, Late Night, This Week, and I will get him on the Early Show when it airs this Wednesday.

Didn't know about that stuff being mentioned on the DVD because I've never seen that DVD.
Book itself? AFAIC, somewhat what you'd expect from Newhart, dry with a few clever lines and anecdotes and funny chuckles here and there and okay to skim through while looking for other books to buy but preferable as a present from someone else. And rather a slim text at that.

Bob Newhart has a book? When did it come out, and what's it about?

Bob's book, "I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This", came out on Sept. 19th. I picked it up on the 29th and was able to meet him and get him to autograph it. He was very cordial, smiled a lot, but honestly - he looked tired. That's understandable - he's 77 years old, keeping a schedule that would tire some of us 40-somethings! He's done a lot of personal appearances and book signings to get this book, plus his Concert DVD (The Button Down Concert, released the same day as the book and Season 4 of TBNS) publicized. At the San Diego Borders store alone, there were well over 100 people in attendance and this was at 12:30 pm on a Friday! We have some photos of this signing on our website.

The book itself kept me glued to it most of that weekend. I enjoyed the little tidbits here and there about his life, particularly when discussing the times on TBNS, NH, and Bob shows, and anything relating to my favorite TBNS character, Howard (Bill Daily). I'm personally glad that I bought it, and definitely that I took the time to go down into Mission Valley to meet Bob in person.

Bob Newhart also answers all his fan mail...and I'm thankful I took time to write to him because I have an autographed pic of him that he inscribed to me!! I look forward to reading the book -- if it's even half as good as his commentaries on the DVDs are, it's sure to be a real treat. I read in Entertainment Weekly that Bob's book crushed the other celeb memoirs in sales, by a landslide. Bob Newhart is a class act and...what else can I say?? He RULES!!
