As anybody who collects and trades rare (ie. old and not syndicated) shows knows, the most likely, if not the ONLY, way to find them is on film. Many of us have sets that were made, at least partially, from film prints.
That being the case, how can a question asking how or where to find films be considered off topic? How is that any different, fundamentally, than asking for dvds or vcds or tapes? It's a different approach, and not a ton of people do it, true, but it does form an important part of the trading chain: find a film, convert it to video, trade it. Several people right here on this trading board have purchased films and now, thanks to them, other people are able to trade for that rare material. If more traders did do it there would be a lot more rare video available to us all so discouraging it by shunting it off to some other forum only hurts rare video collectors, or at least does nothing to help. The move can't be due to the no-retail rule since 16mm films of tv shows/movies were never a retail/commercial product available for purchase. So what is the logic that makes the Movie Chit-Chat forum the proper place for that thread and not the trading forum? |

The concept is the same as having the annual Cattleman's Association dinner and having as guest speaker someone lecturing on the benefits of being a vegetarian. Makes no sense, so reword the thread and insert the word trading. Harvey |

I agree, discussion of film prints is an appropriate topic for the trading forum. A lot of traders who hold really rare stuff in their collections started out as film collectors. I have a couple of odd reels in my collection (a couple of trailer reels from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea on 8mm), but I have a lot more tapes that exist as a result of a film collector transferring the show to tape.
Film prints are as appropriate for this forum as the discussion of television schedules. |

Unfortunately one of the individuals who has the power to move threads is ignorant when it comes to trading.

The question of course still has not been answered. If the collection of reels can be converted so that many in a trading group can benefit, why is it placed in a section where very few ever trade.? Harvey |

I don't have the ability (not authority, the ability) to move a thread on the Trading Post to somewhere else, for example. While Kim can't move a thread on Chit Chat, The Brady Bunch board, or whatever. If someone moved a thread of mine, and I disputed the decision, I would send a PM to the moderators of that board. |

I look at the names mentioned and wonder who understands what occurs in trading and more important what is required to make a finished product. As far as sending Pm's, I have gone that route and for some reason I come to the conclusion my suggestions aren't that welcome. Others know better. There is no doubt in my mind that how to convert 35 or 16mm film transfers, or the conversion of reels so that a individual can have a greater inventory to trade belongs here, not somewhere else where most have no idea what is being asked or could care less about it. there are ONLY 5 people on the entire site that COULD have moved the thread, and it is very unlikely that TJ or Pav would've done it, so that really just leaves Seth, Kim and Combsthebest. Keep in mind that it IS possible that it was just an honest mistake - is it really worth getting all worked up over?

As for moderators knowing what's acceptable or not....I know that TJ assigns moderators that he feels are a good fit for a particular board. The sitcom board moderators have to post regularly on the board in question before they can become moderators. As for PMs, I still think that's the way to go. I give every PM attention, and I know that Kim does as well. Seth is both a moderator of this board and an Admin, and I've found that he's very quick to respond when I send him a PM. I don't know the first thing about film transfers, but if it's related to trading, then I agree it belongs on the Trading forum. Moderators make mistakes. Sometimes it's a tough call. I might have someone post something about Paris Hilton on Chit Chat, and I have to figure out if she's an actress or a singer....and do I kick it to the Movie or Music forum. |

Unbelievable
There have been lngthy discussions and multiple complains about “clutter”
I was told BY THE OWNER- that anything Non trading related should bein various other section. This week alone- there was a thread about “paid programming” Another user posted about the Bounty Hunter getting arrested. Sales, ebay items- Netflix and blockbuster subscriptions which are retail discs- and led to someone asking how to “”avoid copyguards” which is also ILLEGAL. Another member posted the death information of 2 stars that passed away- And this is all in the last few days. I was told that these items are not to be on the trading section. I was asked, when they appear to move them to their appropriate section, which I admit sometimes I don’t know exactly which one it is- But I am tired of being questioned, publically everytime a thread is moved. Instead of just being asked.- it turns it into a public inquisition and If I don’t reply immediately, the thread turns into 3 pages of bickering and assumptions. There are mentions in this thread if “those who are concerned about clutter” And I very much take offense to being refered to as ignorant when it comes to trading” I follow the rules as they are explained to me. And very few follow the guidelines of what is appropriate for this section. There have been exceptions, such as the Joke thread- and each day I go and collect the jokes Harvey posts and bring them to a larger archive, to avoid clutter. If you feel your post, should have an exception made to it, then contact me, Tj, Seth, Or Erik ahead of time- and ask- And if you feel something was moved, take 5 seconds and contact me and allow some time to get a reply. Before tossing off insults that I am ignorant on how to moderate a site. I can’t believe all this hype over a thread that was moved, that not ONE PERSON TOOK THE TIME to ask ME about, instead of 11 posts wondering, accusing and insulting my choice. Had one person taken the time to write me I would have replied before this- discussed it and probably reconsidered- Instead of logging on to read accusations, rumors, whispering and downright insults from some members And for the record, Janice caught the thread and ASKED me if she should move it back, and I felt she was right, BEFORE this thread- but I was unable to discuss it with her and change the directory because I had to work this morning - to amke up some extra money and days because our library was under water for 5 days during the flood. You know that whole LIFE thing that happens. Obviously my mistake. Some people on here are unbelievable at times- and unbelievable rude. It was a THREAD and it was MOVED and it could be moved back for crying out loud. But everyone is so busy asking each other “Who did it” no one took the time to ask any of the moderators here, or even the owner- Just a public inquiry demanding an answer- with allegations and assumptions. |

Yeah, I was suprised to see it in movies. The only place I have seen people talking about film reels is here, hence why I posted in this board. For some reason though I had a feeling it would be moved. It is fine though I still got my questions answered so it worked out just fine

Simply put- I moved the thread to my BEST discretion. Yes maybe it wasn't accurate- YES I have faults, YES it was already caught by another moderator and was due to be moved back
Only 4 people have the power to move threads here. So stop assuming and pointing fingers. ME< the OWNER, SETH and Erik. I can not believe that given we voloutneer our time, and the amount of time I personally devote to this site that not ONE person could take the time to simply, privately ASK. Why it had to be a public debate- and why there needed 11 posts of accusations/allegations/assumptions and rumors. And a few insults as well. I can not believe, that someone posted that by the moving of one thread, under dispute this makes a moderator "Ignorant" What right - and how rude is that- to assume or even say that- That is a slap in the face especially to me- since I have been doing this, on mulitple boards for many years. Is there no empathy for a mistake? Sheesh- I move a thread, and all of a sudden i'm stupid? I can not believe that when times have come that gossip or rumors have spread over conduct, trading, reputation- that I take the time to inquire privately- as to NOT make a circus out of something, and to show a little bit of respect- instead of questioning someones choice publically Especially since it is known tht I am the main moderator here, and life is a little chaotic right now-that no one could take the time to give the benefit of the doubt and give a chance to explain or discuss why the deicsion was made- And IRONICALLY the fact is- Janice was already going to move it back, she already caught the thread move , and was going to put it back I just simply wasn't HOME due to working. So this big a deal didn't even have to be made about it. |
