What is the kindest thing someone did for you or that you witnessed someone doing for someone else?

I called my daughter just to talk to her because something traumatic had happened to me. She called my other daughter. By the next day they both had dropped everything to come be with me. I've typed about six different lines to explain what a help that was to me. None of them measured up. Take my word, it mattered a lot.

I brought this fine post of Wrens' back because I wanted you all to have another chance at it. I'm guessing that it must have gotten lost in traffic. Acts of kidness? None of you have witnessed any or had any done for you?

I don't wanna sound self-righteous or anything LOL, but this is one of my earliest memories and I thought I'd share. It's an act of kindness on my part, when I was in kindergarten. See, on your birthday the teacher let you carry around a little Woodstock (Snoopy's pal) doll. It was a big thing to us

Well, my birthday came and someone else shared the same birthday--but there was only one Woodstock. So I let the other kid carry around Woodstock, and I took a tiny little panda doll substitute. I can't believe I remember that, but I guess it's just one of those things that stick out in you mind and you hold onto over the years.

Thanks Kittflynn, both for sharing your beautiful story and for bringing this post back. I once read about a story I believe in Chicken Soup for the Soul and it went something like this:
a teenager was distraught and very depressed. She was in the basement about to end her life when all of a sudden the telephone rang. Rather than ignore the phone and continue doing what she was about to do, she went upstairs and answered the phone. It was her friend, calling her just to see how she was. Well, this resulted in their having an amicable conversation, her telling her friend that she was about to end her life and the phone call stopped her, thanking her friend for caring and calling her. They got together later that day and the girl said that all it took was a phone call from a caring friend to stop her doing something drastic.
I love that story.

Nancy Fanatic, that was a great story too! You just made me think of another act of kindness I witnessed about 12 years ago.
I was a Sunday school teacher at the church I attended and at the end of the class as I was greeting everyone in the congregation I went to hug a little boy of 6 in my class. Well he was at the stage that he didn't want a hug and ran away. I turned around and walked away going about getting ready to leave when all of a sudden I heard little footsteps (fast) coming toward me. It was a little girl of 4 in my class. She saw what happened and came and gave me the warmest hug I ever received from any of my Sunday school class attendants. I was so touched I told her father about it, who is also a very warm person and she must have learned from him I surmised. Well today this little girl is a beautiful teenager and I made sure she knows how kind she was way back then (she still is) today.

This past winter my mother broke her right arm and my dad and I pitched in to help we did the laundry, cooking, cleaning, and even drove her places after her arm got better my mother was so happy that my dad and I pitched in like that, that she made us a big cheese cake so I guess it was worth it.

at our school, the service club has this thing called SCRAK- service club random acts of kindness.
they are reallly cool, they decorate the halls for holidays and give out candy on holidays. and every day, whoevers birthday is today, they make up signs that say:
If you see BOB SMITH today, make sure to wish them a Happy 16th birthday! its pretty cool!

Every year, my office adopts a family at Christmas time. In all reality, this is probably the only Christmas they will have. We get wish lists from the family and try to make as many come true as possible. Some of the things are simple, like toys for the kids or clothes for everybody. But every one in a while, a special request comes our way that we try our darndest to fulfill. For example, 2 years ago, the kids wanted to get their mom a facial/manicure/pedicure for Christmas. So we ran around town talking to different business and got some of them to donate time and others to reduce their prices and we paid for that. Another was several years ago, the office bought a house for the family because their house had just been condemned (sp) and they were not going to have a house after Christmas. The family was so shocked. It felt just great. You feel good when doing things for people, expecially when you see their reaction when 8 cars pull up infront of their house right before Christmas all filled with presents, Christmas dinner, and a christmas tree.

Some businesses have criticized us for going to the extreme with the families, but our thing is why not. If we can do it for them why not. It is probably the only Christmas they will ever have and we gladly do this. It is not mandatory but everybody in the office helps out. Don't go thinking that this is a big office that can afford a huge load, there are only 10 of us here. We just enjoy being able to give back.

You feel just great about yourself. I can remember my first year with the office, the kids were all so great. When we arrived, they came out hugging us and thanking us. I felt like crying. It was a really cool experience.
