My mom hit the lottery for $500 yesterday and I just said I really don;t need to know because it's not really doing anything for me. Now I told her if she had hit the lottery for $10 million, then I would not mind hearing but to hear her say she hit for $500 and she couldn;t offer to treat me to dinner like I treated her last week just makes really not want to hear anything about it. So is there anything selfish about this?

BTW: I treated on a week where i had little money and couldn;t get the same thing in return after her hitting the lottery a week later. Now if she had hit the Lottery in October I wouldn;t need to be treated but since it was just last week I figured she would offer she I just treated her 6 days ago.

Even with the lottery win, maybe she can't afford to treat.

Solomon, be happy for your mother that she hit the lottery. This is your mother we're talking about.

I think it's being a little selfish. I mean, she was happy she won something! There are some people who never win anything, and that's one thing they want to do. My grandma and Mom get happy when they hit $11.00 on the lottery and I always say "good job!" It's just common courtesy.

Janice i understand but I was just so surprised that she didn;t offer to treat me to Dinner this week since she hit for $500-lol And i was talking about a red lobster dinner not some expensive dinner. So that's why I didn;t feel the need to hear her go on and on about what she plannned to do with the money.

But if i knew she was waiting on her next pay and had little money and i hit the lottery for $500, I wouldn't even tell her about her about it because of her financial situation.

I think it might have been better if you hadn't told her you weren't interested. As Jo said, it's something she was happy about. Any money is better than no money at all.

As for her not offering to buy you dinner - maybe she will sometime. Maybe she was so caught up in the excitement of winning that she wasn't thinking about anything else.

Yes that was deffinately selfish, my mom won $25 once at a raffle and was extremely excited. Because it was the first time she had won anything, and it wasn't like she needed the money but still it's always exciting to win something.

Solomon, no offense man, but you need to get your priorities straight. You don't call your mother during the Jeffersons marathon, and now this? $500 is not a small sum of money to most people. Be happy for your mom dude. Solomon, you're 30 somethin right? Your mom is alive and healthy. Be happy for that. I have friends my age who have lost their mother, father, or both. I'm not trying to attack you but seriously man, grow up.

I did say i was happy but I still don't need to hear about it for a long period of time because I'm waiting on my next paycheck

Regardless of the amount, I guess she was just happy she won something at all. It's very hard to win ANYTHING when your dealing with the lotto.

I thought that when you treat someone to dinner you do it without expecting something in return. It was pretty selfish. Like I tell my 9 year old son Sometimes it is best to keep your thoughts to yourself....
