Default Randy vs. Charlie

Hey all ,

I was just curious as to which 'replacement character' you liked better--Randy or Charlie? I know Charlie was pretty short-lived, but I think I liked him better after watching more of the final season (which I didn't get to see when it first aired because of my work schedule. I'm just now catching up). Randy wasn't a bad guy, but I don't think his character had much chemistry with the rest of the cast. His jokes sorta fell flat, in my opinion.

Charlie, however, seemed to generate many laughs out of the audience and worked better with the cast. He seemed like more of a natural fit. I know he was too similar to Eric's character, which is probably why the creators didn't want to keep him as a permenant character, but I still liked him and think it worked. I don't think either of them could replace Eric (I don't think anyone can, honestly), but Charlie seemed like the better character for the group.

Just my opinion, of course Any thoughts or opinions?

I'm in the minority of That '70s Show fans. I liked Randy. He was no Eric, but I didn't judge him for being Eric's replacement. If he was given more time, he would have developed better.

As for Randy vs. Charlie, I still say Randy. However, I liked Charlie. Why couldn't they have both? Charlie would replace Eric and Randy would replace Kelso.

I hated that they killed off Charlie and I know it was done in a funny way, but I didn't think it was funny. I just felt bad. lol

Charlie had better chemistry with the group. Creating a character like Randy was just asking for trouble. He was too blatently trying to be a combination of Eric and Kelso, and it didn't work in the least bit. There's no point in even trying to 'replace' those characters after seven years. I think they could have just kept Charlie around and never even introduce Randy.

I didn't get into "That '70's Show" until last spring with the DVD's. I started watching Season 8 episodes on FOX also at that time. I am now up to the 4th Season with the DVD's and plan to get the remaining seasons as they come out. I don't know who Charlie was. Can someone tell me how he fit into the show and when he was on? Thanks.

Charlie was a super nice guy (his niceness annoyed Eric) who came to the show in the like the last two or three episodes of season seven. He appeared in the first episode of the 8th season, where they killed him off. But it looked to us, anyway, as though Charlie was going to be a cast member for the 8th season, but that didn't happen. He was played by the boyfriend on "Grounded for Life." I can't remember his name, though. He also starred in "The Loop".
