Default Color Honeymooners

I picked up the Color Honeymooners Vol. 1 and really enjoyed it.

I must admit it threw me off a bit when I first watched it but once I settled into the groove and tone of these eps, I really enjoyed them.

Two things...does anyone know if there is a volume 2 scheduled?

Also...was anything cut out of these shows? I believe I read something on Amazon.com where they mentioned intros were cut out and I just don't see where that could've been.

Thanks...David

First off, any reference to who advertised on the shows was cut out. (Frame of reference for shows pre-1968: Two of the Glea Girls alternated introducing Gleason and Carney, and announcing who was among the advertisers that night; if, for example, Greta Randall introduced the main stars, then Lanita Kent would do the "brought to you by" notice; conversely, if Lanita intro'd Jackie and Art, then Greta mentioned the advertisers. Judy Jordan always said, "And away we go," and two other Glea Girls - Elaine Richards and Pat Sandy, I don't know who's who - alternated introducing the secondary stars, and "The June Taylor Dancers and Sammy Spear & His Orchestra.") Secondly, several of the "Trip to Europe" episodes had been futzed with during its first rerun cycle in 1968, cutting out certain topical references (i.e. Gleason's referring to the third season opener on the original "In Twenty-Five Words or Less," for example), changing the openings to a faster sequence (some of the original episodes meandered in their zooming in on the individual Glea Girls) and even the closing credits (with one Glea Girl's surname being changed after 1967 as has been expounded at some length on other threads - to quote Ed Norton in "Something Fishy," "I'll give you three guesses - the first two don't count"). And the bumpers (the logo of The Jackie Gleason Show as on a cyan blue background, followed by a Glea Girl signaling that they were taking a commercial break or returning to the show) during the halfway point of the show were also cut. Plus several episodes that ended long before the hour was supposed to, thus leading to super-long curtain speeches from Mr. G. at the end, had segments cut out that featured selected clips from the next week's show.

As for whether MPI'll put out a Volume 2, with "regular" episodes starting with "Run, Santa, Run": I certainly hope so.

I recently picked up a DVD copy of the color Honeymooners too.I've never seen these episodes before and really enjoyed them.My only low point is,it's not the same without Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph. They rule as Alice and Trixie.

Yes, let's hope we get volumes 2-4 soon. Unfortunately, sales are to DVD sets as ratings are to television. All too many classic TV on DVD releases have stopped at season one because of their underwhelming sales.

So true MrBand, though the nice thing about MPI is that they seem to be more for collectors and more of a specialty label. Hopefully they will look past the sale numbers and give the fans more of what we want!!!
