Thumbs down Most difficult assignment I have ever had...

Guess what I have to do?? For a class I am in, I have to argue that we should be able to use animals for fighting and home protection. Now, arguing that we can use them for home protection might not be so bad....but for fighting? Not only do I believe that animal fighting should not be allowed, but I cannot find any articles or anything that could back up any arguments I come up with. I know I won't get a good grade if I can't find any hard evidence to support my position (which ISN'T my position, but rather, a position assigned to me.)

I am so ticked!!! I used to be on the side that gets to argue that animals shouldn't be used for fighting, then I get this e-mail from my teacher today saying "due to people dropping the class, I had to move one person to the opposide side of their topic." GUESS WHO THAT ONE PERSON WAS?!?

Eek. I always wonder how anyone can reasonably argue something they don't even remotely believe in. Wish I could help, but I don't know anything about animal fighting. Good Luck!

I can't believe you actually HAVE to do THAT! They are telling you to argue for an issue you don't believe in? That can't be legal!

Oh well, good luck.

It can be really frustrating to argue for a position that you don't believe in at all.
The first step in advocacy is belief, absent of that you are just acting.

Attorneys argue all the time, trying to convince juries that their guilty client is not guilty, but I would find it IMPOSSIBLE to, for example, argue for someone who I knew committed a murder. Okay, everyone has their constitional rights, but I sure as heck could not try to keep a murderer out of prison.

I really don't know how some of the attorneys that fight for the murderers and rapists sleep at night. (I'm only talking about when an attorney knows without any doubt that his client is guilty.)

As for a school assignment, just take it as an ACTING assignment. Good luck with finding some references Bootsy.

Goodluck Bootsy- I can't believe that you have to argue for something you don't believe in either. I wish you luck though.

Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?

Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.

Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.

Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.

Bootsy, I wrote a reply just yesterday about your fine debating skills. I didn't know then that you are actually involved in debate classes. I don't have information about your topic but I'm sure it is out there for you and any of us to find. The first thing you need to do is to regain your objectivity. Remeber that your assignment is to learn to make your case. Whatever you learn from this exercise will be at your disposal when you need it to make your case about something you ARE passionate about.

Yeah, I can if you want me too...today I was supposed to meet with my "team"...there's actually 3 of us that have to argue this side, but of course both my teammates were absent today. But not to worry too much....we don't have to go until Nov. 29th, so the one good thing is we have a looong time to prepare.
