Those PEANUTS TV shows were extremely well-done, which shows what can
happen when you do an adaptation of a work in a different medium (in this case, comic strips) with the participation of its creator. All of the shows were written by Charles Schulz and were enormously successful overseas, on home video and in repeats on television. The first one, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965) won both an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award. The ratings for the first Charlie Brown TV special went through the roof: a whopping 45 share, meaning almost half the TV sets turned on that night were tuned in to the Peanuts gang. Yay! For once, Charlie Brown was a winner. |

..."THIS IS AMERICA, CHARLIE BROWN". The eight episodes spotlighting the Peanuts characters' views on Amercian history were shown during the 1988-'89 season on CBS, George- the first few episodes were seen on consecutive Fridays in the fall of 1988. The entire series was rebroadcast on Wednesdays in the summer of 1990 {as part of CBS' half-hearted attempt to revive weekly prime-time animation, as "THE SIMPSONS" had done}. The other nine specials...cream of the crop!
