Default What were you all doing when you heard that John Ritter had DIED?!?!?

It still seems so shocking. It's amazing it's been so long. 3 years ago today. I remember I was up late on September 11th sitting in the dark and I was listening to the Art Bell show and Geroge Noory said, "This just out of Hollywood. John Ritter has DIED."

I first thought he meant someone else since I just did not believe it. I thought maybe he made a mistake and meant some other John. But as I heard the national news at the top of the hour and checked the internet I was shocked to find out it was true.

What were you all doing?

I was in my 7th grade English class and my teacher had said it. I didn't think I heard her right so I asked her again. That was a terrible day. I cried so much that day that one of the teachers sent me to a guidance councelor and they looked at me in shock when I told them what was wrong.

What a horrible day. Ironically enough, on September 11th, 2001, I was coming down the stairs from my bedroom when my mother broke the news to me that a neigbor died, and in the same exact position exactly 2 years later (and around the same time too) when she told me that John had died.

Luckily, my brother who was not far at all from the Trade Center (he went to Stuyvesant) and a couple of aunts who worked in the general area all escaped and my parents, other siblings, and other family members were not near the site at all.

We shall never forget both the passing of John Ritter and the destruction of a national treasure that lives on in our hearts.

Quite simply, I saw it when I logged onto the internet the morning of 9/12/03. There was a picture of Johnny Cash and a mention of his death--below it was a blurb about John and I couldn't believe my eyes.

So sad.

I didn't find out until the next day, September 12th. My brother heard it on the radio before I did and told me about it. I really thought he was just joking at first, but I finally figured out it was true and was just in shock. It was so unexpected.

Miss you, John.

Unfortunately when you have kids running and screaming around its hard to catch everything. while listening to the moring news after 6am...I could the end of a story..all I heard was ...the former TC star would have turned 55 later this week. Well even though I only caught the tail end. I put 2 and 2 together. I turned CNN on asap, seen the top story Johnny Cash had died , and thought maybe it was Cash they were talking about. But I knew I was fooling myself , I know what I heard, and a few minutes later on the scrolls..there it was. Its funny I hadnt watched TC in months , and something told me that night you need to watch it on N at N.

I found that night while watching the news and I admit to balling when they did the tribute to him, as well as when they interviewed the cast.

Default John Ritter

I heard it on the Nick Digilio show on WGN radio in Chicago. I remember that Nick seemed very shocked by the news,as we all were that night.

I woke up in the morning to get ready for work. As soon as I stepped outside my room to head for the bathroom, my dad told me. I was shocked. As I was getting ready for work, I was shaking. It was so freaky, I couldn't believe it. I held back the tears. Once I got to work, I told my friend who I usually discuss TV with and he was shocked also. He told someone else and they were shocked. It was just so shocking. If they had said "Guess who died", John Ritter certainly wouldn't have been top on your list of names to guess.

And then once I heard that 8 Simple Rules would continue without him, I felt really sad just thinking about how Paul Hennessey was going to die.

In 1998, when my sister told me that Phil Hartman was died, I told myself it couldn't be THE Phil Hartman. It's funny how our minds will do that. I've heard that Denial is one of the steps of dealing with grief. I never thought about it, but I guess that was denial, even if it was a split second.

I'll never forget it.
I was driving to school and heard it on the radio. I was just in shock. I felt so sick! It felt like somebody had punched me right in the stomach and knocked the wind out. The rest of the day, I couldn't think about anything else, and that sick feeling in my stomach just remained. I kept thinking....Why? Why John??? You left us too soon, John! Sometimes I forget he's no longer with us!! When I see him on Three's Company as Jack Tripper, it's just so hard to picture it.

I heard it on the news that morning. I tell you being on SO that day was surreal. Just about everybody had John Ritter avatars and their was thread after thread dedicated to him. Their wasn't no fights on any of the boards that day. Just a lot of sadness.
