Default I certainly hope it's worth reading...

....Cox's last book, on "I DREAM OF JEANNIE", wasn't so hot.
[Perhaps the fact that Barbara Eden refused to be interviewed for the book might have had an adverse effect on Cox's editorial process--WHY devote an entire chapter to "BEWITCHED" at the end????]

Bewitched was the same type of show as I Dream of Jeannie. Magic, spells, etc. It's probably the same reason the first edition of Steve's book about The Munsters had the chapter about The Addams Family in it. I imagine the chapter will be in the newly revised edition, as well.

My best,
Dirt

Is this a new edition? I thought Steve Cox already had a book out on The Munsters. I own his book "The Hooterville Handbook" (about Green Acres) which I love, so I will be picking this one up, too.

Yes, it's newly revised and has also been upgraded. The original was entirely black & white. This one has lots of color pictures in it.

Steve sent me some pictures of a few pages as examples. Here's a couple of them:

Looks like glossy stock, too.

I've been looking for a copy of the Hooterville Handbook, but haven't found one in my price range.

Very cool! Thanks for posting the pics. I will definitely be ordering my copy online within the next few days.

And, I know what you mean about The Hooterville Handbook being expensive! I bought a used copy online about a year or so ago for $20-some dollars, incuding shipping and on Amazon right now the lowest price is $42. Geez!

Thanks again, I'm looking forward to reading this.

I have the original edition, but those sample pictures makes me see how improved this revised edition is.
Love the Pikes Pique shot and the Lily picture next to it. I've never seen those photos before. (We have seen the Lily photo before, sort of. It was a small black and white photo on the back cover of the first edition.)

I haven't bought a good TV book in a long while, this looks like it will change that.

Hi "TV Knowledge Fan"....somehow you've gotten your "knowledge" a little screwed up. First, "Dreaming of Jeannie" was not my last book, or most recent. That was three books ago. And second, I'm not sure where you got the idea that Barbara Eden "refused" an interview with me. That's the farthest thing from the truth, and Barbara will tell you just that herself. In fact, she cooperated quite nicely and posed for some photos inside the book (the one holding the t-shirt, etc.). I chose not to use much of my interview with her because, quite frankly, she didn't have that much to say or explain (much like on the DVD commentary....merely simple and casual comments like, "Oh Larry, you looked wonderful back then" and things like that. How far can you go with that? Not far, not in a book anyway.) So, Larry Hagman, Bill Daily, Sidney Sheldon, director Gene Nelson, etc. and others became more primary interviews with that project, and it still turned out quite nicely. Barbara Eden told me she enjoyed the book, as did the other cast members, and Sidney Sheldon sent me a terrifc letter complimenting me on the book and invited me to his home in Beverly Hills. So...."TV Knowledge Fan", you may want to verify things before spouting off. That's all I ask. You might live up to your title then....But, thanks for reading. Sorry you felt the book wasn't "so hot." Why did I include a chapter on Jeannie's sister show, "Bewitched" (with never before published quotes and photos from the cast) ? It's called perspective, and it adds to the main topic. Most people welcome it. Yes, in my new Munsters book I devoted all of two pages to "The Addams Family". While that may irritate you, would you believe there are some (not so hard-core) fans who still confuse the two shows? It's true. The two sitcoms are continually compared (like Bewitched and Jeannie) and I provided some perspective...compare and contrast a little bit with some trivia added, etc. . At the end of the day, call it a bonus and let it be at that.

Default to 'coxwriter'.....

...sorry if you got the wrong impression about my opinion towards your book. There were some enjoyable portions of it (especially the "behind the scenes" photos), but there could have been a BIT more research involved. A good example is the photo where "Jeannie" is holding the box of 'Baggies' in her bottle. The reason this picture was taken was because the Colgate-Palmolive Company co-sponsored "JEANNIE" during the 1966-'67 season {they manufactured 'Baggies' at the time}, and I'm quite sure Barbara appeared in some "integrated commercials" for Colgate-Palmolive's products at the end of the episodes they sponsored. Since the photo in question was taken during production of "My Master, the Author", I believe Barbara delivered a 'Baggies' endorsement (in character?) at the end of that episode. I could be wrong. But I seem to recall some "comedy" commercials featuring her for C-P, during that period. She probably doesn't remember that arrangement these days.

And by the way, I saw "A Thousand and One Nights" (1968), and I distinctly remember NO "flying carpets" during the entire picture [the producer couldn't afford to show one on the budget he used]. Just referring to Leonard Maltin's book isn't enough- you have to SEE the picture before you can describe it!

I'll read your "Munsters" book before I decide if I enjoyed it....
