Default Haunted Places Near You that you've heard of/been too?

Haunted Places Near You that you've heard of/been too?

My friend had a book that talked about the most haunted places in New England and I have been tow one so I figured I would talk about some...

These are all located in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts

The Hossac Tunnel (haunted by many workers who died while building it)
Turner Hall (hauned by a dance instructor who hung herself)
Adams Hospital (haunted by several dead patiants)
The Mosanic Temple (haunted by Alfred Houghton, The first Mayor of North* Adams, who lived there)
The North Adams Library (haunted by Alfred Houghton. It was his Mayoral office until a new Mayor was elected and the building became vacant.)

The last teo are actully very cool as Alfred Houghton is my mother's Great x3 Grandfather...

Avon Lake - Avon Lake High School - A figure of a ghost was seen in the auditorium of the school. Many students have heard loud banging noises and have seen mysterious lights. An old janitor, by the name of Clark Danbury died a terrible death in the early 1900's and he comes here to take care of his place.

Bay Village - High School - Students hear bangs and see knobs turning in the light booth of the auditorium and he is unknown. The spirit messes with the sound switches and makes light flicker at times during practices. Also students hear foot steps.

Cedar Point - Amusement Park - The carousel in the park is an old one, with hand carved horses. Legend has it that the man who carved the horses for the carousel caught his wife cheating on him with a jockey from the local horse track. He shot and killed them both for their infidelity. There is a black horse on the carousel with bones carved into his mane, and the image of a jockey is carved into the saddle of another horse. Employees have reported hearing the music of the carousel at night while it spins backwards. They have also reported leaving it at night and arriving the next morning to find the horses in different positions.- November 2003 update: The carousel did not originate in Ohio it is actually from Michigan, near Lake Lansing. The locals there believe that Al Capone used to torture people on the carousel and then dump their bodies into the lake, which is where the haunting actual begins.

Elyria - Cascade - They say at night if you go up in the rocks you can see fire and people around it. You can hear howling and screaming by the falls. They have reported a shadow figure on the swings.

Elyria - Elyria high school - It is said that the tunnels under the school have ghosts. There is also activity in the Washington building. The really big hot spot is the auditorium.

Mansfield - Mansfield Prison - The warden's wife was supposedly killed in front of his office. Reports of feeling light headed and not being alone.

Sandusky - Cedar Point - a young woman walking past CJ's Provisions in the Frontier Trail. Anyone working in that stand has reportedly felt someone there or has apparently seen someone walking by the doors when they are closed before the season begins. Legend has it that a young woman walks up and down frontier trail looking for her boyfriend / husband in that area. Strange things have happened in CJ's. If you leave a sponge on the sink in the fudge area and leave to go and do something, like take your break or go outside to get something and you come back and your sponge is gone. No one else has taken it or even seen where it went to. Then when you go back, sometimes the sponge reappears in the same place that you last left and there are only 2 of you in the stand. (I have first hand experience with this since I've worked there this past 2003 season).

Sandusky - "Hotel Breakers - To get the story straight on Hotel Breakers (it was probably a seasonal employee making something up about Fridays) There are two known reoccurring instances of hauntings in Hotel Breakers. Hotel Breakers has now four sections all of which were built at different places in time, the oldest and still central being of the hotel is "The Rotunda" which is named so for its circular five floored circular structure of which live it's majority of rooms. "The Lobby" is a two story structure in which contain offices and old meeting rooms on the first floor of such, second floor has rooms that were once guest rooms, now employee dwellings. this is that which we are most interested in for in one of the two second floor hallways is room #169. The very room in which during the early 1900's when the park was still just a beach resort, a guest by the name of Mary hung herself in dismay (supposed to that of a lover), hung herself in her room. Since then, Employee and guest alike have had odd occurrences, disturbances, violent unseen actions, noises, problems with electronics occur. The third oldest portion of the hotel "Breakers East" Which in itself wasn't built until the mid 90's and is portioned into three and four floors. The occurrences in this section were sightings of "Faceless apparitions" in a small combination of number. All other sightings and instances are not known as re-occurring and random. The whole park is
rumored to be haunted, and also rumored to have been built on a native burial ground.

I have been to all of these places but Mansfield.

The famous Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, about a half hour drive from me.

Named after the Winchester rifle heiress who lived there. I don't know the story, but she went crazy or something. The mansion has all kinds of annexes and strange things. The staircase that leads to nowhere and stuff like that.

The typical thing though: I've lived near it for so many years but have not bothered to visit it.

The house I used to live in was totally haunted. People think I'm nuts for thinking it, but I swear it was. I was almost afraid to sleep in that house. You could feel the precences bouncing off the walls all the time, almost like an angry vibe.

Everyone in this city knows about the ghost of the preists house, its a little boy that haunts the house.

Also i have had ghost experiences in my house, like cold wind flying by, end of my bed sinking down 2 times.

My old neighbor also said my house was haunted, by a good ghost.

My high school is haunted by a girl who was killed in a play. Also my old elementary school was haunted b4 they tore it down.

There was this house my best friend's dad used to rent. It was a mansion, and it was DEFINITELY haunted. At night, we would feel the strangest things even though it was only us and her dad there. There was one room that gave off the STRONGEST vibe of a little girl being murdered in it. One night, when it was just her dad, the phone started ringing at two in the morning - and it was a dead phone. A [dead] answering machine picked up and it was a bunch of white noise that sounded like someone talking. I heard it and so did my best friend and her mom. We're all convinced it was her dead grandmother trying to call them.

He moved out of that house It was awesome, but SO SCARY.

I just remembered another house he lived in. It wasn't a mansion, but we loved it just as much because there was a small house in the backyard that we basically lived in. It was old, and when you ran down the stairs, it sounded like ten people were running down them after you. We were only ten when he lived there, so we would do it over and over again because we thought it was funny. Now we're both like, "WOW THAT IS SCARY."

I think the same thing too! I swear to god that the house I live in right now is haunted in some way. The rest of the house is fine, but I get such a strong feeling of a presence when I go into my mom's bedroom. I don't know how to explain it, but yeah. I've had some seriously weird **** happen to me in the almost three years I've been living here.

Recently, the bulb in the nightstand lamp in my bedroom went out. TWICE. In 10 seconds. I really hope I'm not imagining things. O.o That freaked me out.

I've also SEEN my bedroom door open and close, and then felt somebody sit down next to me on the bed... But when I look over, nobody is there, even though I clearly felt my bed shift like somebody else sat down on it.

I swear that the school I attended years ago was also haunted- it was the deaf school I attended. This particular school was a residental school, meaning there were dorms on campus. That school was established in 1890, and was permanently settled on its present campus in 1892. Over the next 20 to 25 years, a lot of buildings went up on campus. There was also a set of train tracks that ran through the campus - they're still on the campus today, but not connected to any other train tracks anymore. There was also a farm operation on campus, being that it was a residental school, and they had to make their own food. Anyway... I know of a true story of a death that happened on campus in around 1942. The campus was still out in the country at the time, so it was easy to go animal hunting right on campus. Anyway... One day, these two boys who were students at the school, decided to go gopher hunting. One of them ended up accidentally killing himself. Here is the story, as it was told to me, by an alumni of the school:

There is one other incident I vividly remember as a girl. It happened in 1942. Two of the boys who lived in the dormitory loved to hunt for gophers. One day, they sneaked out of the dorm and went into the room of the man who took care of the gardens and fields. They took his gun and decided to go gopher hunting. Not far from the barn, in a grassy area, was an old boxcar. The boys decided to climb to the top of the boxcar to spot gophers. While they were climbing, one of the boys dropped the gun and it went off. The bullet went through the boy's leg, through his body and came out near his shoulder. The other boy was very scared and ran for help. He had been born with one leg shorter than the other, so he had a difficult time running. From our window, we girls saw him frantically running and limping, and we knew something must be wrong. He ran to the gun owner's room and called him for help. They ran back to the boxcar and the man quickly carried the wounded boy to the campus hospital. As we watched from our window, we saw the doctor come, then the superintendent. Finally, a minister came too. We watched all night to see what would happen next. Later that night, a hearse came and we saw the minister praying near the hearse. The boy had died from his injuries and they took his body away. The next morning, the superintendent met with all of us. I remember clearly what he wrote on the blackboard - "Where can we place the blame?" Days later, we went to the boy's funeral. It still makes me cry when I remember.

So, it is a very big possibility that this boy's spirit still wanders around the campus now. When I was a student there, I could always feel a very strong presence if I went into certain rooms in certain buildings. Creeeeeeeeepy.

Sad haunted

I believe you. My daughter lived in a totally haunted house. She had no internet at the time, but her ghost communicated thru her computer. We held conversations with something that said it was a 5 year old girl named Emily who died of typhoid in 1888.

We were terrified. Needless to say, they moved out very quickly.

The Bell Witch Farm in Adams is supposed to be haunted. Theres been several
books and a movie about it. Theres also a scarey cave on the property that
I went in back in the 1970's. Its a spooky place. Adams is about a 20 minute
drive from my home.

Also Fort Donelson in nearby Dover is supposed to be haunted by civil-war
soldiers. I've been there several times.

Living so close, you probably have seen or heard some unusual things. It must
be a little un-nerving at times.

Cool

I have heard of Myrtles Plantation, which is in Louisana. It is supposed to be haunted by slaves, and old plantation owners. It is now a Bed&Breakfast. I have never been there, but I think it would be fun to go to one day.
