Default Living in the US & buying DVD's from Canada

I live in the US and I have noticed that Amazon.ca sells shows not available in the US (or with different packaging). They are releasing Gimme a Break (S2) Oct 3rd, and sell Kate and Allie Seasons 1&2 together.

I have never bought from Amazon Canada before and I was wondering if there was any difference in buying DVDs from there. I understand the DVDs are in NTSC format so I just wanted to check with the people here before buying anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Those DVD's are just released under another company, and have slightly different special features.

The only difference is that they are priced in Canadian dollars, and a 6% GST tax is added on top of the price.

You can also check out Videoflicks for Canadian releases of movies and TV shows- and yes, their services are also available to U.S. residents.

There's no difference between Canada and the US DVD's. The ONLY Difference between Canada's Amazon.ca and the US Amazon.com are the PRICES. And you pay for international shipping.

I pre-ordered my GAB DVD the other day and my total was $34.45

There is a difference for some films released by "Alliance Atlantis" in Canada , and Miramax Films the U.S. Often times the "Special Features" on Canadian "Alliance Atlantis" DVD releases will be the same features released by the French company "Artificial Eye" in France.

Most TV show DVD's are the same, though.

You can still buy the Canadian edition of "Gimme a Break" from Videoflicks. Just keep in mind they charge you in Canadian dollars, and you also have to pay the GST.

I understand that in Canada, they don't have the same laws for captioned DVDs and whatnot, so a lot of their DVD sets tend to not be captioned. I know they released the first season of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" in Canada, and that set isn't captioned, even though it was captioned in its original run over here in the US. Their Kate & Allie S1/2 set isn't captioned, either.

It's a bummer- I would buy sooooo many more sets from Canada IF THEY WOULD CAPTION THEIR FREAKING DVD SETS.

Thanks for all the replies.

PZelda, What do you mean about captioning videos? Do you mean they don't include the words with the video (caption). I assume that is what you mean, but I just want to make sure. I've never watched a DVD that way.

I believe PZelda is referring to closed captioning.
