79. Lionel tells louise him and Jenny had a fight and he walked out. So this is Classic Mike Evans

Lionel: Me and Jenny had a fight so I walked out

Louise: Lionel you walked out? How could you do something like that?

Lionel: Well it was easy, I put one foot in front ofthe other, grab the door knob, turned it, and then I walked out

You know what Solomon, last night it came to me...I didn't mind either Lionel, but there sure is a difference that does bother me.

The original Lionel, Mike Evans, LOOKED LIKE HE GREW UP IN HARLEM, the streets, he was a young guy who always had that "street" attitude in him, it gave him presence. Much like George. Ready to fight, etc.

The second Lionel, reminds me of Carlton from Fresh Prince (in a minimal way)...he doesn't look nor does he behave like someone who would have grown up in Harlem, the streets, had "thuggish" friends, so forth.

What do you think?

Irene, i agree with you totally on that. The way the 2nd Lionel acted was in a Carlton kinda way. I also didnt mind either of them, but i prefer the original Lionel overall.

Funny how it didn't come to me until last night.

But when you think of the overall picture, Lionel was like his dad, and they both are from Harlem, so it only makes sense that those characters retain their ways from where they came from.

James Evans from Good Times may or may not have liked George because he had money and George was only too happy to show how rich he was, but George DIDN'T FORGET WHERE HE CAME FROM. Even if he loved to lie abt being the son of a sharecropper...

Yup, Mike Evans didn't have to act a certain way to let you know he was from the Hood, u just knew by how he carried himself.

Yes! "from the hood"...I was trying to think of a way to put it.

No matter how much money you get INTO...your real personality will always shine through. The second Lionel looked and sounded like he was born into money.

I agree as well. I think it has to do with the actors. Mike Evans probably had an upbringing similar to Lionel Jefferson. The way he carried himself had more authenticity than Damon Evans who was nowhere near as subtle. He had a certain attitude and he is interesting to watch when he is in a scene even when he isn't saying anything. The next time you catch an episode of either this or All in the Family with him in it watch him. Even with the sound off he does a lot of little things like gestures and certain things about his body language that make him very interesting to watch. That to me is a sign of a very good actor. If circumstances were different or in a different era he could've easily carried his own series, and not just a sitcom either.

Being a woman, I would be more attracted to the "street" guy than the other guy. Not that I would want a guy who isn't educated and so forth. Just something abt a man who carries himself and let's it be known "Don't mess with me!" Much like George Jefferson who would throw down any time he had to.

TV guide critic predicted he would get his own show when the Jeffersons first started but had not predicted he would leave the show after season 1-lol

My favorite episode was Mr. Playboy...When Louise did the little dance he did when he came in the house.
Louise to Jenny: He didn't have time to study he was to busy being (dance) "The Life of the Party"....LOL
That was a classic Mike Evans and Louise moment.
