Default The Grand Opening - Mother Jefferson's health

I just noticed in this episode that aired awhile ago that mother Jefferson didnt look too well. Looking at her in this episode & seeing past seasons, you can tell her health was going downhill. She looked so frail in this episode I thought.

She was close to death in that episode. It was amazing with her age that she still came out and did those three episodes that season before passing away not long after her final episode in the 77-78 season. That was a character I truly missed during the run of the series. But she still as sick as she was and dying had that razor tongue edge toward Louise.

I wonder how the show would have been different if Mother Jefferson had lived? I mean, I wonder how she would have felt about being a great -grandmother to Jessica?

I think she'd have likely spoiled Jessica and encouraged her to be a brat to all the other adults in the family- especially Weezy!

Her collapsed lung caused by years of smoking. That's why she had cancer by smoking.

Considering how deep and scratchy her voice was, I think it would be more likely that Isabel Sanford was a smoker IRL than the bird-voiced Zara Cully. But since I never got to meet either nor have read any interviews about their tabacco usage, I can't say for sure!
