In school we all had to do a project, a report, in college, thesis are the norm for some. Tell us abt your projects/reports that you worked on:

In 4th grade we had to build a California Mission. Living here in California, missions built by the Indians and Father Junipero Serra is a major part of our history. I (with my sister's help) built a replica of San Fernando Mission. Many, many years later, I would help my two daughters when they were in 4th grade, to make their own missions.

For me, in 6th grade we had to do a report on either volcanoes or earthquakes. I couldn't decide so I did my report on both. I was fascinated with what I was reading and it was hard to decide which one to choose. I remember that report very well. I worked so hard on it and put all my energy into it. It was worth it. I received an "A" for that work.

In college, I had a thesis to do on the California Justice System, whether it pertained to the actual justice system or the state of our prisons. I decided to do my thesis on California prisons, the death penalty, the penal system as a whole. I did receive an "A"...as a matter of fact, the only "A" in the class. This professor advised me how well I would do as an attorney. I decided, No.

Well, one of my favorite projects was a biography/geography project where we had to pick something we liked and design a country incorporating various geographical features that related back to our theme....My theme was, of course, MASH! I did this in 7th grade, and I liked it so much, I now have my 9th graders do it.

As a teacher, I assign a LOT of projects ('cause I hate grading worksheets, and teaching at an art school, it's a good way to spark kids' interests). Alumni say they like my invention project (for the industrial revolution...they have to invent something that would make their life easier today, then create a prototype and advertisement for it) and the WWI project where they have to create a 3-D model of either a trench or an airplane from WWI...for some reason, they almost always make giant sheet cakes and carve out trenches...it's funny!

Well- one research paper in particular jumps to mind. When I was a junior in high school, I had to do a research paper for my English class, and I decided to do mine on prostitution. Let me tell you, that was one hell of a fascinating subject to research! I worked really hard on that paper, and it was hard for me not to exceed the maximum amount of pages required for the paper, because I wanted to write more about it.

I still remember that the research paper was worth 400 points, and I got a 390 on that paper- a 97.5%, or a high A. One other girl in my class got a 389 on hers, and I had the highest grade on my research paper in the entire 11th grade. Nobody else got a 390 or over- I was the only one. I wish I still had that paper... I have it saved on a CD somewhere, but it's not the same.

When I was in 6th grade, one of the classes organized a school-wide nutrition fair, and that class wanted all the other classes to participate in the fair. They let the teachers choose which country they wanted their classes to work on, and we had to prepare authentic dishes for that country. My teacher wanted my class to work on a project that featured the country of India, because that teacher had lived in India for a few years before she came back to live in America. She already knew how to make Indian food, so we had a lot of fun preparing Indian foods for the fair. That was a pretty neat project to work on... That teacher had so many authentic things she had brought back from India, so we were able to actually dress the part... We wore sahrongs and everything. I remember Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Norway being some of the other projects that the other classes worked on. Everybody liked our class project on India...Like I said, that was a fun thing to work on.

In 10th grade, I helped a friend put together a project for English that was based on the whole 'Paul is Dead' Beatles' hoax. We searched online and in books for any little tidbits we could find and tried to find all the little clues and backwards messages on their songs, etc.

That was really fun

The only time I really enjoyed class projects was in college and taking my Media Arts courses. It didn't feel like work when you were shooting a film or working on a storyboard. Heck, even cutting and pasting audio tape was fun.

I just remembered another. In fourth grade we were told to make a poster advertising a country and why one should visit there. It was supposed to be like those big ads you see in travel agencies with a beautiful pic and so forth. So I decided to make one of Mexico. My headline was "Mexico where you can find a pot of relaxation at the end of the rainbow"...and I had drawn a big rainbow with a big black pot, but instead of gold in it, I drew some lounging chairs. I had pasted pics of the sun, beach, mountains, umbrellas and so forth. The reason I remember it so well is because I saved that. I received an "A" on that one too. I showed it to my kids and they laughed at my drawings but they loved my overall imagination.

Oooo... I always loved fun, school-related projects!! The kind of projects that let you be creative and incorporate things YOU really enjoy were the best part.

-PowerPoint presentations: I've made a ton of them during my college years. I've created them based on my favorite group, Ace of Base; Sweden; vacations I've taken; how to build format and build a computer image; and so on.

-Essays: I love writing essays papers that interested me. You know, talking about things I enjoy, vacations I have done, and talking about hobbies that interest me. Sooooo much fun!

-Multimedia projects: Creating interactive programs/CDs/projects using Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Director, Adobe Premiere, creating websites, etc.

-World Fairs: Part of our final projects at my old high school when I was a senior was to get into groups, pick a country, research the country, write a paper, put up a display, and cook an authentic dish from that country. I really wanted to do Sweden, but our class didn't have it as a choice. But, our class group selected Lebanon. That was still fine because I got to learn something about it, and we got to make Tabboleuh (sp?) which was like a very sour type of salad. That was fun getting to delve into other cultures!

I love these types of projects!! I'm such a geek!

In 6th grade gym, we had to pick an athlete and write a 3 page report on that person. I chose then Atlanta Braves pitcher Greg Maddux. I did the whole report the day before it was due and got a 90.

I did that project, too. My country was Albania. It was a lot of work, but was still better than most projects.

Yeah, everyone was laughing so hard at that part, that I started laughing. All of the characters were supposed to have different voices, but I was laughing and trying to continue, so they all had the same voice. I remember I got points taken off for that.

About six or seven years ago, my stepdaughter had to a profile a large company for a college paper. Lucky me, she asked if she could profile the company where I was working. I interviewed Department Heads, got all sorts of graphs, charts, etc.

I ended up putting the entire paper together for her. It took me almost two weeks. She got an A. Yeah, it was plagiarism.
