Default Who could have played Skinny Mulligan?

If the character somehow was seen on the show could have played him? Now there are lots to be determined in this. My first thought would be to have Don Knotts since he would be just finishing TAGS but he was under contract with MGM and not UA. Now, my second idea would be to have Dwayne Hickman, kind of like Maynard and Dobie together again, but I don't know about that actually working out. Dobie Gillis was a CBS show so maybe it could have but. I don't know if Dwayne would still be under contract with 20th Century Fox by then. Now we are to assume Skinny is around Gilligan's age (late 20's) so who could it have been?

I don't know, but I have this image in my head of someone similar to Gilligan, he would of course have to be real skinny and a dork. He would have better smarts than Gilligan. I guess a very young Don Knotts type of actor.

I thought of one!

Sammy Jackson would have been good . He was in No Time For Sergeants the show (which I happen to have a few episodes of ) and it ended at the end of the 64-65 season.

He doesn't wear glasses, but I always pictured Skinny wearing them

I don't think you would recognize him, he wasn;t in that much. I read he was a DJ for over 30 years though

How about John Banner from Hogans Heroes. Since he is so big it would be funny to call him Skinny

I can picture him being played by a character actor named Mickey Manners. Similar in appearence to Gilligan.

Some other choices:

Hoke Howell.
Tom Lester
Larry Hovis

How about Bob Denver?

The spilt screen thing was really popular on shows (especially Gilligan's Island) in the 60's and 70's.

here is another, Jerry Van Dyke (the orginal choice for Gilligan because he turned it down because he thought it was stupid) After My Mother the Car I am sure he wouldn't have minded getting a second chance.

BTW TJL, that would have been cool.

HOw abt Jim Varney "Hey Vern" and all those other crazy movies he did? I am sure he would have been around 20 during that time.
