Question Did they ever have flashbacks?

I haven't seen nearly every episode. I'm really into Lost these days, and they show flashbacks so we get a glimpse into the character's backstories.

Did they ever have flashbacks on Gilligan's Island? If not, it might have been fun.

Technically no, but we get to hear about the night before the Minnow set sail in the episode Not Guilty. That episode has always been one of my favorites. They don't show Hawaii, but we do get to hear about it from the castaways.

Oh, and Birds Got to Fly.. (the Christmas episode) flashes back to the first day on the island, but it is stock footage from the pilot so I am not counting it as a flashback.

Another case is when they flashback to when the Jappanesse sailor was on the island, but it is new footage. The gang talks about how they saw it. It is a flashback, but not really.

So to me they aren't flashbacks, but they kind of are

I'm thinking it would have been fun if each character had one episode where they could flashback to their lives before being stranded on the island. It may have been considered and dismissed due to budget concerns.

We get to see there life back home in Rescue but it isn't the same as if it were done while the show was still running.

That is a good idea. Considering all of the "dream" sequences they did with the characters in lavish costumes, a flashback of Gilligan and Skipper on a "Hawaii" set doesn't sound too hard to pull off.

I think a good flashback would be how Gilligan and the Skipper met in the Navy.

The bad part about flashbacks is that not everyone could be in the same one since they didn't all know each other before they were on the boat

It's funny how people have differing tastes. I find the flashbacks on Lost annoying to the extreme. It seems like their just filling up the hour most times.

another cool Flashback would have been to see Skinny Mulligan somehow. Maybe have Gilligan in High School. Now who could have played him?

I love the flashbacks. They provide backdrop and dimension for the characters. No way are they just filling time. How else would we learn the character's back stories....we'd have to sit through them telling others on the island.

Jack with his drunk surgeon for a father, and troubles with his wife...Hurley's winning the lottery...Kate's criminal background...Locke and how his father screwed him and his relationship with Katey Sagel...Sayid during Desert Storm...seeing the swindler Sawyer in action...Jin and Sun's problems, Rose's cancer...Michael and Walt -- those are good storylines to see played out.

The flashbacks also show how many of the characters and storylines are intertwined and connected. I think we'll see why that's important in the future.

I guess it's different strokes for different folks, but I would hate it to be just the island all the time.
